  1. Btw, anyone wondering, Vlad left the game earlier due to left lower back tightness.
  2. McAdoo made up for his bases loaded failure nicely.
  3. Who knows if he really "blew it". Guys can put great swings on meatballs and hit them right at the defense too even if he's trying to suck
  4. Arrighetti is just a weird pitcher. He should just never throw fastballs according to the numbers. His cutter, 4seam and sinker all get lit up
  5. No pressure McAdoo but if you fail, the Jays season is over.
  6. For sure Miles gets a shot at the rotation, I don't think for a second they claimed him with plan A being a leverage reliever long-term, even though he certainly could be right now. I also agree they need to add a legit arm. Spaghetti is certainly not ready and yes he still has options. However, I think if they want Miles to start, he will at least be starting the year in Buffalo to build up innings and get back into the starter's regimen. Cease, Trey, Ponce and Yesavage (barring injuries of course) are stapled 1-4. Signing or trading for another top starter basically means the Spencers are in Buffalo. This is where a work stoppage would really suck for them since they wouldn't even be able to play for Buffalo since they're on the 40 man roster and 40 man roster guys can't play in the minors in a lockout.
  7. Jays from 2025 with more than 300 PAs OPS comparisons to this year: George Springer - .959/.740 -.219 (crap) Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - .848/.700 -.148 (crap) Varsho - .832/.682 - .150 (crap) Ernie Clement - .711/.677 -.034 (mildly crap) Alejandro Kirk - .769/.776 +.007 (push) Nathan Lukes - .730/.711 -.019 (mildly crap) Andrés Giménez - .598/653 +.055 (say what?) Okamoto to Bichette is a drop but that's not on Popkins Barger to Sanchez/Pinango was .755 to .734/.702 more weighted to Sanchez so a bit of a drop, but again can't really hang that on Popkins. Having a healthy Barger will be key next season. Thing is, if we went back and compared all these guys from 2024 to 2025... Springer, Varsho, Kirk, Barger and Clement all improved. Was that all on Popkins? Did he just forget to do his job this year? Year to year variance is hard to pin down on a guy but yeah, it wouldn't shock me to see him hang (metaphorically) for it. Maybe he is great at identifying certain things in certain guys but pretty bad at the mental side? Or maybe the 1 year older bug just bit harder.
  8. I'd settle for complete sentences more often than not tbh.
  9. Certainly looks like they're transitioning Miles role to be a multi-inning guy every 4th day to maybe make the transition to starter easier for next season. last 5 appearances including today have been Sep 3, 8, 12, 16, 20 Actually, that seems to have been the plan going back further but since the start of August they've also been using him in high leverage games and series when needed outside of that plan
  10. Post of the Year right here folks. Has everything a classic post needs to be remembered for ages. Deep insight. Hilarious and uniquely complex juxtaposition of changing "Blue" to "Clown". Just all around stellar prose.
  11. I take Straw back at 5 for sure. But his option is for 8 Reasons: A) he has as solid a floor as anyone on the team given his speed and D B) he doesn't make mental mistakes and virtually never makes you shake your head and wonder wtf he was thinking. C) 6.25 million is nothing for the Jays. Cleveland is on the hook for his 1.75m buyout anyways, so even if they did want him back they could decline the option, get Cleveland to cut a check for that, then re-sign him at 6.25 and he still gets the same total money as his option year salary would have been if it was picked up. DO the same thing anyways and if he signs for 4 or 5 instead.... cool. Or do the buyout thing and give him 2/10 or 2/12 D) can still play everyday for a few weeks if the injury bug hits and not be an embarrassment because of A and B. In a vacuum... sure, anything above 3 or 4m is an overpay but the strengths of having big payroll is not just signing superstars, or extending your own guys, it's also being able to spend the extra 2 or 3m to get the best floor guys on your squad when you need them too.
  12. Telling ya his hat will be in the ring for next MLB commissioner
  13. 3. It's everywhere. Everyone is blowing everything on purpose for the gamblers. Classic "your mom" joke inserted here. Of course gambling is involved in baseball, always has been, always will be. Weirdly though, gambling sites being legalized actually make it easier to catch those involved because there's now a record of every bet placed and it's easy as hell to see irregularities and match them up with individual patterns from a player. The amount of coordination to have an entire team tank a full game, series or even to blow a huge lead though would require a huge amount of coordination with players on both teams involved, plus the patterns in changes in betting would be completely obvious. Like, sure, when a team takes a big lead there will always be a few degenerates that toss a few bucks on the comeback to try and score big, but when those patterns fall outside the norms in a large way, you can bet it's being investigated.
  14. Crazy things happen. The Rangers were 72-1 when leading in the 8th inning prior to last night's game and ... they lost with a lead in the 8th. The thing is, if the Jays go 7-2, then Texas probably won't go 6-3 since at least 2 of those losses would be against the Jays. We can really spin all the numbers and permutations all we like, but the reality is .. there's 3 series left and at minimum the Jays need to go 6-3 to even have a slight chance. Anything worse, they're likely done for sure. Anything better and the odds just go up from there
  15. Not sure I agree with a 30 HR hitter in the 7 spot, but the players themselves should be an improved offense. The obvious problem... age.
  16. About as close to must win as you can get without it being the actual mathematical necessity of lose and you're out.
  17. I wouldnt want to go toooooo long term at all if they did want to bring him in, my concern is the 1-trick pony aspect of his profile that as soon as that 1 skill drops even 1 tier for him, he becomes a huge liability.
  18. Thats some serious voodoo
  19. Mlb network was practically jerking off to Arraez earlier tonight saying he was just like Tony Gwynn as a "master of his craft" And this was followed by another 5 minutes about batting average was better way to judge a hitter than using OPS because "nobody asks you in high school or college what your OPS is and when youre there you always tell other people what your average is..." Seriously, MLB pays people to be that far behind baseball reality.
  20. Texas was a bullpen game, used 7 pitchers tonight. That's a good piece of news. Sox win, Texas loses. Pretty much the bets the Jays could have hoped for really even if it didnt move the needle that much. Every little move of the needle helps at this point.
  21. There you go...making up statements again. I said they were swept by the sub .500 Pirates. I said they haven't been playing top teams while only winning 1 series in September. Both of those statements are simply factual. Whatever connotation you inferred from them is in your own head.
  22. I have no issues with your posting style, I'm concerned for your mental health. If a sporting event makes you want to rage, you have bigger concerns in life. (yes I realize some of that was probably in jest)
  23. 1. Step away from the keyboard. 2. activities are up to you, but your option 3 sounds like a great idea. 3. Do not return to the keyboard for at least 3 months. the term keyboard also includes all devices used to connect to the internet.
  24. naw man, its just... the way you framed it makes no sense. Like, it just wasn't actually funny. You had to make up a statement to turn something I didn't say into a light hearted post. That makes no sense. lol?
  25. Tucker with a near cycle, going 4-5 with a HR, 2 doubles and a single as the Dodgers clinch their 13th division title in 14 years.
