  1. Pearson is going to get every opportunity to be a starter on this team. They would be silly not to give him that chance given his obvious gifts. However, there will be a time in the future because of his numerous injuries and command issues that if they don't sort out, it will necessitate a move to the arm barn. That length of time though is hard to narrow down. So many factors are playing against him right now that it really has to go perfect for him to be a starter going forward.
  2. Atlanta also had 88 wins in the regular season, not exactly what you want to shoot for.
  3. It’s kinda weird to think of Berrios as an ace. I don’t really see him that way but rather a very solid #2 on a championship caliber team. He’s a great arm, but I feel the Jays still need that top shelf vodka for a great post season run. They will be great in the regular season either way, but come playoff time it still feels like there’s some pieces missing
  4. No worries about a work stoppage guys, check out this headline on mlb.com: Deal by Dec. 1 Commissioner's No. 1 priority Hear that? #1 priority. Gonna get it done in the next 2 weeks. #1 priority. Didn’t know the B in MLB stood for Buuuuuuuuullllllllshit.
  5. Psychology classes are paying dividends. But you can study this stuff without that. Poker players do the same thing every day
  6. Watching someone’s Facial expressions when talking aren’t assumptions. There’s fairly deep science behind it. A mouth can lie, faces generally don’t unless the person is a sociopath.
  7. Watch his facial expressions at the same time. He’s all straight faced and serious when he talks about Toronto…and starts smiling as soon as he moves on. These are unconscious tells that he doesn’t want to return to Toronto. The only way he comes back is if the Jays overpay so much that he can’t say no, and there’s no way Atkins makes that mistake.
  8. I'd be sorely tempted to back up the Brinks truck for Scherzer. Him I would pay 2/70-80 with an option for 3rd and sleep very well. upfront cost, but possibly off the books by 2024 along with Ryu, Grichuk and a few others.
  9. As of this moment, I would say yes, it's a bit premature. If he repeats last season this season... hard to say no. I'd say he's in the pool of players that have the potential to be core pieces in the next few years. Kirk, Jansen, Biggio, Manoah and then Moreno are probably all in that pool for me. Pearson also but to a lesser extent, he's more of a fringe core guy. Romano would be too if I didn't have an irrational hatred of relievers in general
  10. I mean, it's all fine and dandy to compare Ray to a Hall of Famer who was a complete unicorn and all... but....let's not.
  11. Always love the way people phrase things. it's quite telling. As were his facial expressions. "Toronto's great but....." " I love Toronto but......" He's not coming back.
  12. Ray scares the hell out of me on a long term deal. He throws 2 pitches... and pretends to throw a 3rd and 4th. Yeah, his fastball and slider are both nasty, but... 1 slight dropoff and he's got nothing to fall back on. On shorter term deals, I want him. but 5-6 years? No chance. I know there's risk in all pitchers, but Ray's risk profile seems higher than most top end guys given he just doesn't have more than 2 pitches. I loved watching him this year, but putting that many eggs in Ray's basket is extremely risky IMO
  13. No, he's still cheap for the next 4 years at least. His arb 1 wouldn't even be until 2024 or 2025 at this point. Or do you mean forgetting about him as a core piece?
  14. Sure. Imean, we're just pie in the skying at this point because i highly doubt Correa comes anywhere near the Jays. A Ramirez trade is far more likely since the dialogue between the Jays and Indians already progresses to a certain point, and there's additional factors now (Moreno being one of them) that make a guy like Kirk more likely to be dealt without remorse (Boxcar aside). Take Correa's 33 million off there and you can absolutely grab a legit top end starter, a top end pen arm and Yates.
  15. Also a plus. What a really big plus would be from him is having an actual decent year so he might be worth something in trade, but it really looks like he's a sunk cost at this point. Clearly, the team's core for the foreseeable future is Berrios, Springer, Vlad and Bo. Berrios and Springer are known costs, Vlad and Bo not so much yet, but they are certainly trending in the expensive direction. Short of some team friendly extensions for both of them, something will have to give in order to keep the dollars manageable. It would be nice to see Moreno step in as a core piece soon as he's still cheap for along time (possible CBA changes notwithstanding). Biggio has a chance to be a core guy also, but he's not trending in that same expensive direction as Bo and Vlad so far.
  16. Yeah, but at some point, there will be some trades made. No way to keep that kind of core together over the extended long term. LIke, Teoscar is likely looking at either being dealt in the next 1 or 2 offseasons without an extension. 10M for next year, Arb 3 for 2023. Depending on his season this year I would view him as a prime trade candidate to free up the dollars needed to keep up with Vlad and Bo's increasing monetary needs. Ditto Gurriel. On the plus side, Ryu's 20 million is off the books after 2023 as well.
  17. Yeah, wouldn't be getting legit front end starter and another great pen piece for under 20 million though
  18. And just confirmed officially, everyone except Belt rejected.
  19. Likely. Freeman, Ray and Verlander have not technically rejected yet, but ... no way those guys accept.
  20. No kidding. Such a poorly run franchise. Should be a lot of updates in the next while about QO rejections. deadline to accept/reject is in 40 minutes.
  21. Raisel Iglesias officially rejected the Angels QO. Expected for sure. Fantastic numbers, but he will be expensive. Estimates are 4years/56m
  22. There is no chance any team is giving Verlander 2/80. That would just be stupid.
  23. Jeter is very very very overrated defensively yes. Offensively.. no. Arguably the best hitting SS of all time - depending on whether you consider A-Rod a career SS.
  24. It's just a terrible article: Headline: Montoyo robbed of award! Frist 2 sentences of article: The most difficult baseball post-season award to vote for is manager of the year. There’s just no good way to figure out who truly deserves it. But he was robbed....no good way to figure out who deserves it... but, yup, robbed. What an idiot.
