    If you want my dream scenario... It's signing Freeman, Trading for Ramirez and a pen arm from Cleveland (say... Anthony Gose) and throwing whatever is left at Rodon for 1 year. That leaves Pearson in AAA to try and get straightened up as a rotation piece for when the inevitable injury happens, some additional pen help that is admittedly a bit of a risk but... I love lefties who can throw 100 mph. The upside is enormous with a rotation of Berrios, Gausman, Manoah, Ryu, Rodon, then having Stripling, Pearson, Logue, Francis, as the 6-9 options seems like a decent start. Lineup just makes me wet... Springer CF Vlad 1b/DH Freeman 1b/DH Ramirez 3b Bo SS Teo RF Biggio 2b LG Jr LF Jansen C Kirk Grichuk Espinal whomever wins the last bench role between Lopez, Jimenez, Palacios and Smith Pen Romano Garcia Cimber Mayza Gose Richards Stripling + whomever wins the last few spots Yeah, payroll might be 180 million, give or take, but that looks pretty sweet.

    Sure, but the pen list is already 16 names long with guys on the 40 man alone... with Borucki, Castro, Cimber, Danner (longshot - likely AAA), Garcia, Hatch, Kay, Logue (AAA likely), Mayza, Merryweather, Richards, Romano, Saucedo, Snead, Stripling, Thornton. I left Bowden Francis off the list as I think he will be rotation depth, same with Pearson, but ... who knows really. Not to mention Phelps, De Leon, Gage and Lawrence that are already signed to minor league deals and the forthcoming additional minor league signings with ST invites that will inevitably happen. My point is that there's no need to be actively seeking major league pen arms unless it's someone who is decidedly top shelf. The middle and lower shelves are pretty well stocked.

    You're not wrong in thqat there's still rotation concerns. Top 4 is set in stone but #s 5-9 are still in flux.

    Yeah my bad. A Marte trade makes tons of sense. Though I think i'd still rather sign Freeman and trade for Ketel than signing Bryant. Sure, Bryant would be cheaper, but My money would definitely be on Freeman being far more impactful for longer.

    Sure, but ... why would Marte even be on the block? He literally just signed with the Mets, why would they want to move him after signing him and open up the same hole they just filled? Also, 20-25 million for Bryant for 4-5 years (guessing that what he ends up with)... 19 million per for Marte for the nest 4 years on top of the current long term deals on the books? No thanks at their respective ages. That would all but guarantee Vlad and Bo not getting long term extensions, unless they both took ridiculous discounts. Can't see that happening. I would argue signing Freeman and trading for McNeil would be better, cost less in prospect capital and actual dollars, plus still leave the door open for Vlad and Bo extensions.

    I think the pen is actually looking fairly decent right now. Good amount of upside, lots of arms to choose from. It's the rotation depth that's a tad thin

    In theory there can be, but a modest floor like 60 million would only have impacted like 4 teams last season, and only really 1 team by more than 10 million, Baltimore who was 42 million. Miami was at 58, Pittsburgh at 54 and Cleveland at 50. So impacting those 4 teams for a total of 36 million doesnt really move the needle much. Any kind of salary floor that would actually be impactful to the players would probably have to be 90 million or higher. Using 90 million you have 8 teams that need to add salary and 2 more than can't give any away to stay at that line.

    The numbers just came out that players salaries on average declined for the last few years, while team valuations continue to rise. It's the perfect ammunition to use in the negotiations. The players have been bent over in the last couple of negotiations, but they aren't stupid. They know they simply cannot get everything they ask for, they're just looking for a solid W in their column this time and it won't be a cap/floor situation because that would definitely be something that requires a long work stoppage. More likely it will be some give from the owners on salaries for younger players, arbitration changes etc in exchange for perhaps a slightly lower luxury tax, or some revenue sharing tweaks.

    It’s all posturing. A salary cap without 50/50 revenue split and a salary floor doesn’t make sense, they know that, the owners know that….it’s all about who blinks first

    Jeff McNeil from the Mets reportedly to be on the block when the lockout is over. Option for the IF situation for the Jays? Can play 2b, 3b and OF, hits lefty. Coming off a down year after 3 pretty solid ones. Projected for 2.5 million in Arb for the upcoming season, with Arb2 and Arb3 in '23 and '24. Not a ton of HR pop but decidedly more power than Espinal, takes some walks and doesn't strike out a ton. Worth a look?

    2 extremely different things that have very different impacts on share prices. And, hopefully that deal gets nixed by the regulatory bodies because it would be incredibly s***** for Canadian consumers.

    Sure, but Rogers is publicly traded company, so it's a bit different than all the other privately owned teams. When they drop 250 million, it has the potential to drop the share price.

    LGjr at 3b is the worst case scenario, only due to injury to like 5 other guys type of solution for the rest of 1 game until they can call someone else up for tomorrow.

    1. Lawrie - more compact and would get more of his shoulder and forearms into it. 2. Lawrie - Canadian advantage to beer drinking. Would easily outlast some dumbass American 3. JPA - Lawrie is dumber than a brick and catchers have more upstairs. 4. Hard to quantify this, but I'd call it a tie. They both have that giant douchey athlete vibe that chicks hate to love to f***.

    Mine that isn't finalized yet... Bonds A-Rod Manny Rolen Schilling Sheffield Sosa Jones Clemens Wagner Ortiz Still waffling on Kent and Petitte. I'm leaning towards yes on Kent, and no on Pettite, but I'm still working through the numbers.

    No s***, if anything they saved baseball and gave it some attention again. Baseball started being relevant again, all those sanctimonious writers that were all worried about their baseball writing futures jobs were saved... if anything every writer with a HOF vote should be thanking those guys for keeping them employed. Except Murray Chass, he just needs to stop and gracefully exit the whole process before he makes a bigger joke of himself and his ballots.

    I dont think trading for Marte would be a similar cost, Marte doesn't have that same Ramirez superstar history. He's a legit star, of course, but I think he could be pried away for decidedly less than Ramirez, even with the extra year of control.

    There was 2 things I noticed right away when I watched my one game there. Why are the seats along the third base line pointed at the RF wall instead of more towards the plate? And where the f*** are the cupholders?
