  1. Seattle is going to be dangerous this season. Making some pretty good moves.
  2. The Mariners are finalizing agreement on a deal that would bring in star outfielder Jesse Winker from the Reds, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN (Twitter link). Seattle is also acquiring third baseman Eugenio Suárez, reports Mark Feinsand of MLB.com (on Twitter). More to come.
  3. I'm not speculating on what to do with Vlad until the signing is confirmed. If it is though, I may not be able to walk properly for a month.
  4. The pen is mightier than last year, at least on paper.
  5. Remember, youd be trading the draft slot, so whatever slot bonus is allocated there would have to go with it, or there would be no point.
  6. Matt Olson traded to the Braves, pretty much says Freeman is gone.
  7. I think trading picks in MLB would be even more interesting given the nature of the slotting system, since adding picks would mean more money in your draft pool allocation. Teams could make use of that money any number of ways to make their drafts better.
  8. Sounds like that Robbie Ray guy a bit no? Maybe they've identified some similarities in the two and feel like the same type of adjustments they made with Ray will translate with Kikuchi.
  9. THis is no doubt the gamble being taken here. Underlying numbers give lots of reason for optimism if he can be unlocked. His HR rate last year was also off the charts and probably not something to expect as the norm. Even projecting at 2 WAR... if your 5th starter is projecting at 2 WAR with upside... that's not really something to be worried about.
  10. His OBP abilities give him that higher floor than most and will give him every opportunity to make that swing adjustment that helps him get to his power more. His barrel rate is pretty gross.
  11. Perfect signing. Now trade for J-Ram and it's about as perfect as it can get
  12. MLB radio was doing a thing over the past few weeks where they commented on who would be on each MLB team's Mount Rushmore. I did not hear who they put on theirs for the Jays but thought it might be interesteing to see what we all think, given the fairly short history of the Jays in the overall MLB landscape, not to mention what people might think of who really qualifies to be on it. Longevity? Great players hwo played for a short time? Defining moments? For me, 2 of the 4 spots aren;t really arguable. Dave Stieb and Roy Halladay. I can't imagine anyone who would do this exercise and not have those 2 names included. Past them... I have Carlos Delgado and Roberto Alomar. My reasoning is Alomar, while not a Jay for the longest time had both incredible moments, won 2 World Series and is the only Jay hat wearing member of the Hall of Fame (also, f*** you Brandy Halladay... and sorry for your loss). Delgado for me is just because he's a friggin beast with the bat, played here quite a while and was universlaly loved. Who's on it for you?
  13. Update - Trevor Bauer has been placed on a week-long administrative leave by the league, as first reported by MLB Network’s Jon Heyman (Twitter links). The leave will run from March 13 to March 19, and Bauer also won’t report to the Dodgers’ Spring Training camp prior to the 13th. Major League Baseball is still considering whether or not to issue a suspension to Bauer, as per the MLB/MLBPA’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.
  14. He probably turned 50 5 years ago.
  15. Depending on the angle you view it, it's a good thing the executive board wanted to keep fighting, but went with their consituents wishes, that's their job.
  16. One surefire way to know the deal was a good one for the players, Jim Bowden has done nothing but whine about how bad it is. Delicious.
  17. Martin Perez is the next domino to fall... 1 year/4m to the Rangers. The market is on fire.
  18. Haven't heard ay rumblings of a contract extension for Chuckles yet, 2022 is his last season under contract. Typically we dont see managers on lame duck contracts any more - they either get extended or fired before the season starts. I know which way i would go, but if you're looking at numbers over his 3 years... it's hard to deny there's been steady and rather remarkable progress in the W/L column, a finalist for the most useless award in sports, 1 expanded playoff appearance and 1 playoff miss by a hair. Are we going to see the extension announcement soon?
  19. Beltre is the size of one of Vlad's legs
  20. Trade for Ramirez, sign Rodon or Kikuchi to round out the rotation and this team is a golden ticket.
  21. No s***. All these tampering GMs trying to wait a few hours to make it seem like contracts arent already agreed to ...
  22. I'd rather sign Freeman just so he doesnt end up hitting between Stanton and Judge in New York. Or... do both.
  23. FOr arbitration eliglble players... the numbers exchange must be done by March 22, but any hearings that need to happen wont take place until the season has already started. THat's a lot of pressure on the GMs to get good deals in place ASAP. Players for the Jays that are arbitration eligible for 2022: Ross Stripling Teoscar Hernandez Adam Cimber Trevor Richards Ryan Borucki Danny Jansen Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Tim Mayza Trent Thornton Cavan Biggio
  24. I'm now hijacking this thread to provide updates on the University of Lethbridge administration's negotiation with the Faculty Association, since the faculty went on strike on February 11th, having gone without a contract for nearly 600 days. They're still on strike, though now both sides have agreed to mediation, that will start some time next week. My classes are being f***ed over hard, as even if an agreement is reached, the University hasn't yet informed students what options we will have, whether the semester will just be stretched out into May, or if it will be condensed. It greatly impacts me as I will not be in the country in May, so if they decide to stretch out the semester into May, I wont be here to finish. If I don't get the choice to withdraw and get my money back to apply for these classes at a later date, I'm boned. Not to mention all the student's whose leases run out in April and have no place to live past then. The following links will be to each sides propoganda releases: https://www.ulethbridge.ca/bargaining#:~:text=The%20Board%20negotiating%20team%20is,2.5%20per%20cent%20each%20year. https://www.ulfa.ca/taking-action/bargaining-updates/
