  1. This tells us the meeting was not about core economic issues.
  2. Acuna Jr should call have called Soto and asked for negotiating tips.
  3. The balls on that guy….that’s some serious money to risk on me idiot pitcher that loses his grip on fastball and shatters his forearm….or runs into a wall chasing down a fly and jams a shoulder. 27 million per year is nearly UFA money. I could never turn that down in my wildest dreams
  4. When's the last time you can recall 4 catchers in the top 11 including the #1?
  5. Naw not really, just poking the obvious holes in Manfred's libne of how owning a baseball team isn't a good investment and the owners see low returns. It's kinda laughable
  6. His upper body looks noticebaly bigger as well. Hope it doesnt mess with his swing mechanics but he does look noticeably better compared to 2 years ago
  7. 43 actually. Getting some pre-requisite classes done before hoping to get a degree in Nutrition in the next 4-ish years. The program requires 30 University level credits from certain classes before you can even apply to it. Working on Biology right now, the Diversity of Life, with 2 classes of Chemistry and 1 more english lit class to go.
  8. Yeah, the returns are really only expressed when the asset is sold. Until then it's just "value" sitting on a spreadsheet somewhere.
  9. Why could the Raps not just do the same thing? I know very little of how the NBA salary structure works.
  10. Here's one way to do it: https://www.appraisaleconomics.com/sports-team-valuation-appraisal/ Coles' notes version - Over the past decade, MLB franchises have been sold for prices that equate to between approximately 1.5 and 3.0 times total revenue. Teams in larger metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) with higher levels of average disposable income, lucrative long-term cable television contracts, and new stadiums where the team has significant rights to stadium income (naming rights fees, concession sales, etc.) will command multiples at the high end of the range. Conversely, teams in smaller MSAs, with less lucrative media rights contracts, and older stadiums, typically fetch multiples at the lower end of the range.
  11. It's greed to ask for a pay increase while the value of the product they are providing also increases? I mean.... the nerve!!!
  12. Given the salry structure of the NBA, this has to be cap space related right? Young is a UFA at the end of the season so likely wont be around anyways, Eubanks is already waived... What's the real upside for the future unless it's just more cap space in exchange for moving down the draft board a bit
  13. Kinda sad that something like that would prevent a father from being able to work with the son due to the lcokout, but yeah... technically wouldnt be allowed. Im dealing with my own situation of a stirke right now at University, the faculty is on strike as of 11am this morning. They've been working for nearly 2 years without a contract and finally said enough was enough. So now I don't have class until it's resolved. Hopefully it wont be too long.
  14. AVERAGE: In 2000, the average value of an MLB team was $238 million. In 2019, the average value is $1.735 billion. This is an increase of $1.4097 billion (728%). Even cherry picking what's probably the lowest valued teams (Tampa, Oakland, Pittsburgh, Cinci)... They all show pretty nice valuation increases: https://www.statista.com/statistics/194639/mlb-franchise-value-of-the-tampa-bay-rays-since-2006/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/194631/mlb-franchise-value-of-the-pittsburgh-pirates-since-2006/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/194629/mlb-franchise-value-of-the-oakland-athletics-since-2006/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/194607/mlb-franchise-value-of-the-cincinnati-reds-since-2006/ For the big boys: https://www.statista.com/statistics/194628/mlb-franchise-value-of-the-new-york-yankees-since-2006/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/194621/mlb-franchise-value-of-the-los-angeles-dodgers-since-2006/ And Toronto https://www.statista.com/statistics/194642/mlb-franchise-value-of-the-toronto-blue-jays-since-2006/
  15. Summary of the owners new offer: We’ll fill all the Coke machines, for free. Deal?
  16. I hate you for that
  17. Another example of revisionist ******** catering to the unintelligent masses who are too dumb to speak the language correctly.
  18. You split your infinitive though, which just makes you look dumb.
  19. Fergie is classy. He tried to ring Joe West to congratulate him on his retirement. But Joe missed the call.
  20. Sure. I think he will be a quality bat. What kind of quality is subject to debate.
  21. True, but Bichette is already doing it at the major league level and truly only for 1 season. We've yet to see if he can make the adjustment longer term. I think he will, but it's not a given. The way I see Bo is that 2021 was pretty much the best we'll see from him (which is totally fine... not saying it's bad or disappointing) unless he can make adjustments to laying off those pitches we can all see he has no business swinging at. Make that adjustment and he's easily superstar calibre rather than just all-star. Moreno hasn't done anything at the major league level yet, so forgive me if I hedge on the side of unproven. Can't really count on the 90th percentile outcome without having sniffed a major league pitch. It's possible... sure. Anything is possible.
  22. "Eric Logenhagen was saying he doesn’t see 30+ homer potential in that bat, but with his innate ability to make contact combined with his reported exit velos, I’ll have to disagree with him there." Well, that innate ability to make contact on bad pitches is what could actually prevent him from getting to the game power at the big league level. If he makes contact on pitches that he shouldn't be swinging at, he's much less likely to hit it for a HR. And when that scouting report gets around the league, he'll see even fewer pitches in the zone. Kinda like Kevin Pillar syndrome - except Moreno does have enough power to mash the mistakes.
  23. No. he just forks over the money for whatever length of games the suspension would be for and it's over.
  24. Any suspension would be retroactive to his admin leave start date. It's likely he'd be eligible to pitch on day 1 when the season starts.
  25. Yes, it's possible laws MAY have been broken but they have little chance of conviction due to "insert factors here", but it could also mean the prospect of conviction is low because no laws were broken. We, not having all the info, should not make assumptions either way.
