  1. Perfect signing. Now trade for J-Ram and it's about as perfect as it can get
  2. MLB radio was doing a thing over the past few weeks where they commented on who would be on each MLB team's Mount Rushmore. I did not hear who they put on theirs for the Jays but thought it might be interesteing to see what we all think, given the fairly short history of the Jays in the overall MLB landscape, not to mention what people might think of who really qualifies to be on it. Longevity? Great players hwo played for a short time? Defining moments? For me, 2 of the 4 spots aren;t really arguable. Dave Stieb and Roy Halladay. I can't imagine anyone who would do this exercise and not have those 2 names included. Past them... I have Carlos Delgado and Roberto Alomar. My reasoning is Alomar, while not a Jay for the longest time had both incredible moments, won 2 World Series and is the only Jay hat wearing member of the Hall of Fame (also, f*** you Brandy Halladay... and sorry for your loss). Delgado for me is just because he's a friggin beast with the bat, played here quite a while and was universlaly loved. Who's on it for you?
  3. Update - Trevor Bauer has been placed on a week-long administrative leave by the league, as first reported by MLB Network’s Jon Heyman (Twitter links). The leave will run from March 13 to March 19, and Bauer also won’t report to the Dodgers’ Spring Training camp prior to the 13th. Major League Baseball is still considering whether or not to issue a suspension to Bauer, as per the MLB/MLBPA’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.
  4. He probably turned 50 5 years ago.
  5. Depending on the angle you view it, it's a good thing the executive board wanted to keep fighting, but went with their consituents wishes, that's their job.
  6. One surefire way to know the deal was a good one for the players, Jim Bowden has done nothing but whine about how bad it is. Delicious.
  7. Martin Perez is the next domino to fall... 1 year/4m to the Rangers. The market is on fire.
  8. Haven't heard ay rumblings of a contract extension for Chuckles yet, 2022 is his last season under contract. Typically we dont see managers on lame duck contracts any more - they either get extended or fired before the season starts. I know which way i would go, but if you're looking at numbers over his 3 years... it's hard to deny there's been steady and rather remarkable progress in the W/L column, a finalist for the most useless award in sports, 1 expanded playoff appearance and 1 playoff miss by a hair. Are we going to see the extension announcement soon?
  9. Beltre is the size of one of Vlad's legs
  10. Trade for Ramirez, sign Rodon or Kikuchi to round out the rotation and this team is a golden ticket.
  11. No s***. All these tampering GMs trying to wait a few hours to make it seem like contracts arent already agreed to ...
  12. I'd rather sign Freeman just so he doesnt end up hitting between Stanton and Judge in New York. Or... do both.
  13. FOr arbitration eliglble players... the numbers exchange must be done by March 22, but any hearings that need to happen wont take place until the season has already started. THat's a lot of pressure on the GMs to get good deals in place ASAP. Players for the Jays that are arbitration eligible for 2022: Ross Stripling Teoscar Hernandez Adam Cimber Trevor Richards Ryan Borucki Danny Jansen Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Tim Mayza Trent Thornton Cavan Biggio
  14. I'm now hijacking this thread to provide updates on the University of Lethbridge administration's negotiation with the Faculty Association, since the faculty went on strike on February 11th, having gone without a contract for nearly 600 days. They're still on strike, though now both sides have agreed to mediation, that will start some time next week. My classes are being f***ed over hard, as even if an agreement is reached, the University hasn't yet informed students what options we will have, whether the semester will just be stretched out into May, or if it will be condensed. It greatly impacts me as I will not be in the country in May, so if they decide to stretch out the semester into May, I wont be here to finish. If I don't get the choice to withdraw and get my money back to apply for these classes at a later date, I'm boned. Not to mention all the student's whose leases run out in April and have no place to live past then. The following links will be to each sides propoganda releases: https://www.ulethbridge.ca/bargaining#:~:text=The%20Board%20negotiating%20team%20is,2.5%20per%20cent%20each%20year. https://www.ulfa.ca/taking-action/bargaining-updates/
  15. I agree, i dont think banning the shift was necessary, but it will help offense at least a bit I guess. So that's a good thing imo
  16. But i thought games were cancelled Manfred? What happened to the deadlines??? ...
  17. The fact they are getting players to vote and not just the player reps means this is a deal that is within the parameters of acceptance they would have set prior to negotiations starting so... yeah, I think that's gonna be the deal. And just so happens that all of these number are practically the exact halfway point to each sides original offers. The MLB netwrok radio guys called almost these exact numbers 6 weeks ago as what a deal would likely look like.
  18. I thought they agreed on eliminating draft pick compensation already like... 3 weeks ago? Why is that suddenly back on the table?
  19. Very true, but 95% of it is exported already, so a shortage overseas probably doesn';t change what Canada does with it's own supply. I doubt our production can be increased very much in the short term
  20. Exactly. It's getting to the point where all providers are rushing to be the exclusive carriers of "insert specific type of entertainment here." Netflix started the streaming craze and now there's... more than 20 streaming services out there, all with their own exclusive stuff, plus recycled old stuff. TV networks now have their own streaming services so you cant get their stuff anywhere else, largely as a response to dwindling cable TV/satellite subscriptions. Video games in the near future are all going to exclusive to one platform or another be it PC, Xbox or Playstatation. It would not shock me in the least that sports in general is going to get to the point where each team in every major sport has it's own streaming platform, and anyone who wants to watch anything will have to subscribe to that team's service, or the general league streaming service where blackouts would be overwhleming and only useful for out of market customers.
  21. I'm really a fan of people who use arguments that basically boil down to "but this Hall of Fame player did that, so ... can't everyone?" I don't think the shift should be banned either, but using this kind of argument is just ... sooooo... stupid. The same assinine s*** gets tossed around for people talking about pitching "why do they need to throw 95 mph? Greg Maddux .... blah blah blah"... like if every pitcher suddenly realized that if they'd only throw just a little softer they too could have absolutely pinpoint command, enjoy a strike zone 6 -8 inches wider on each side of the plate and be a Hall of Famer. If only...
  22. I don't think so. There's already a "you have to be able to hit X good" for defensive only and I dont see how that would change to any large degree with banning the shift. They'll still suck too much at the plate to be anything other than a bench guy. Ozzie Smith was the best SS of all time and if he hit 1 or 2 tiers lower than what he did, nobody would ever have known his name.
  23. I think from the Union POV it's more about how changing to RObo umps would affect the player's valuations, specifically catchers. If framing #'s no longer matter to defensive value, then a catcher's valuations go down. I guess maybe the same for pitchers if robo umps call alot more balls.
  24. They arent rejecting it outright, just for until at least the end of 2023 season. The MLB wants to change the unilateral process from a 1 year notification time to 45 days... which is basically them saying as soon as the World Series ends, they want the ability to say "next season, here's the changes" So the PA is saying that's okay for cerrtain things, but they want more time to look at the robo ump thing
