    So many decisions in the lineups these last few games are just weird.

    Think of it this way - umps bad calls might impact the Jays by -1 run, and favor the opponent by +1.5 runs. That's an overall impact of 2.5 runs and in my totally random example, doesn't favor the Jays, we'll assume they lost that game. In another game, the calls might impact the Jays by -.2 runs, and favor the opponent by +.5 runs. So the overall impact is .7 runs, and still favoring the opponent. But the Jays win that game. Just trying to see if there's any correlation between well umpired games vs bad ones, regardless of which team ends up with the favoured calls. ... So far, the jays will win games that have less umpire impact and lose the ones with more impact.

    I'm not keeping tally of whether the Jays were in favour or not, just the W/L record when the overall run impact of the umps on the game is high or low. Incorrect strike zone calling affects certain teams more than others depending on the skillsets of the players. But, looking at the favoring... the Jays have had calls go their way in 5 games and are 4-1. When they arent favored, they are 2-4.

    If anything Bo has shown incredible improvement in his glovework, the last thing he heeds to sharpen up is the decision making and runner awareness. Both errant throws last night were on runners that are slooooooooow and he had plenty time to slow down after gloving the ball, set his feet better before the throw but he didn't because he failed to take the runners speed into account. Contrast that to the Bogaerts play where he absolutley had to rush to have any chance, and he nailed him on a much harder pick and throw.

    I think theyre trying to find a term that doesnt imply they are s*** pitchers only being thrown in because they don't want anyone else to waist their time. Realistically, that's kinda what people think when they think of a swing man

    The long man in the pen. Guy who throws 3+ innings to save a s*** start, and will start the occasional game when needed. See Ross Stripling.

    Excellent contact, but even a half competant left fielder that doesnt take the worst route in history tracks that down.

    Yeah i dont think it was dirty, but i can see why some could come to the decision that it was - it kinda looks like he grabbed his head and his head ended up taking a bit of a hit. I don't think he was grabbing at it to deliver a blow, it actually looked like he was trying to keep the catcher up and all he could grab was his head area based on where his arms were during that part of the slide.

    Update: Jays are 4-0 when the ump isnt blind and affects the game by less than 1 run. Are now 2-5 when the ump's calls affect the game by more than 1 run.

    It is, but the only thing worse than not hitting with RISP, is never getting runners into scoring position.

    It's the Rockies. the dude running that place loves spending money, just... not on great players. Arenado was the best contract they ever handed out (like, at least he was a legit Top tier star player), then panicked and dumped him. Now they're just throwing money at mediocrity.

    There's also an opt-out clasue that he can exercise after 2024 if he places top 5 in Cy Young voting in either 2023 or 2024. Not that it's likely to happen...

    You can only wait 20 days on rehab stints for position players. Then it's either call him back up, or option him to the minors if he has options remaining. If no options remain and they don't want to call him up he would have to be DFA

    Exactly. If they felt he wasnt ready to come back up, they simply could have optioned him to stay in the minors instead. Since they can only keep a position player in the minors for 20 days while on a rehab stint (30 days for pitchers), they either have to call him back up or option him if he has remaining options.

    Not so much that he is currently injured, just that the injuries he sustained may have shaved a bit of his bat to ball skills down from where they were, which for him would be a big problem.

    That's the thing, it cannot just be a pitch clock. There has to be corresponding rules set up so they cant get around it. Can't have the catcher holding the ball for a long time, have to set a max # of times the batter can call time, or the catcher can call time in any PA. Would also feel like setting a max # of throw overs with runners on base would be a smart thing also.

    It's not that his 4 WAR in 700 PA was fake. It just may no longer be a reasonable expectation due to injury. The walk rate floor, ability to play multiple defensive positions (albeit not in a plus way...) and swing left handed should give him plenty of room to try and figure out the rest of the hitting part.

    It was just an interesting stat, doesnt really mean anything. In a perfect world, Tapia and Zimmer wouldn't be seeing the field with any regularity.
