  1. I think they're trying to equate trading Conner Bedard and Shohei Ohtani somehow.
  2. It's definitely the same type of skill, but probably different enough. Like, I don't think I would expect prime Josh Donaldson or Chappy to have well above average jump times if they moved to the OF. I could be wrong though.
  3. I dunno, i think getting a jump on flyballs is probably quite different than a quick reaction at 3b. In the OF he could be taking that extra half second before starting his route because he doesnt read the fly balls well... at 3b you dont have to do that since youre just reacting, you dont have time to judge anything. It's really hard to say since he was moved off 3b early on due to the Cards not thinking there was much point in him continuing there since he was never going to play 3B for them at the ML level with Arenado around. His rush to the OF was largely due to him murdering baseballs and them wanting that bat in the lineup ASAP, and they only position they could get that to happen was the OF.
  4. From fangraphs write up in 2022 "On defense, Walker’s ability to bend and get deep into his legs, as well as his lateral agility and range, is incredible for a player his size. There have been some instances this year where he’s backhanded a grounder deep near the third base line and fired a rocket over to first base, but most of his routine throws are casual lobs over to first. There are some scouts who have seen nothing but this type of throw from Walker for entire series, and leaving them with questions about whether he can play third base" looks like he wouldn't use his arm unless he had too, and that led to some scouts having questions about his arm - even though he playes short, 3b and pitched in high school and never had arm questions at all. “Normally, when you have someone of his size and physicality, you’re seeing someone who maybe you’re starting to think of moving to the outfield,” Randy Flores, the Cardinals’ assistant GM and director of scouting, told MLB.com after the Draft. “But I believe that his actions, his grace, his speed is reflective of athleticism that positions him for the longest chance possible to stay on the dirt [at third base].” Probably looking at average D, power bat 3B.
  5. It's true, the Cards moved him from 3b midway through 2022 since Arenado was going to be the only guy playing 3B for the next 5 or 6 years. He has a rocket for an arm, was clocked at 99-100mph recently on throws in from RF so his arm out there isnt the problem, it's mainly his jumps, routes... and everything that isn't his arm.
  6. No doubt, if anything he should be not-so-delicately stating that he's open for business, listening to all offers no matter what, while also stating he may be moved, he may not be. but he's a f***ing idiot
  7. Funny you mention that... Kirk is 39th in the MLB in trade value according to Fangraphs who just started their annual trade value conuntdown: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-trade-value-nos-31-40/ Vlad checks in at 35, a precipitous drop from his #9 ranking last seaosn.
  8. What’s really gross is that likely we’re going to see 2 or even possibly 3 teams with top 10 mlb w/l records not make the playoffs.
  9. I mean it’s an understandable viewpoint…when you have a guy that’s pitched like a solid 2, borderline 1 but non-ace for 6 of 7 seasons, that equals a 4/5 pitcher.
  10. There’s going to be backlash regardless of when he leaves, the only decision Morono needs to make is whether he gets something back to offset that backlash or not. It’s the most no brainer move in MLB right now. It’s not really possible to win the trade either, you’ll never get an Ohtani back in the trade, but the right trade might get you 3-4 guys that could build around.
  11. When you have a team that’s hasn’t had a sub .500 record since 1992, and only missed the playoffs 4 times since 1995, winning the division 14 times since 1994…. it would be very difficult to not have some kind of that though.
  12. The Draft penalties are: A team that outspends its pool by 0-5 percent pays a 75 percent tax on the overage. At higher thresholds, clubs lose future picks: a first-rounder and a 75 percent tax for surpassing their pool by more than 5 and up to 10 percent; a first- and a second-rounder and a 100 percent tax for more than 10 and up to 15 percent; and two first-rounders and a 100 percent tax for more than 15 percent. The international signing penalties are: international pool money was scaled based on the previous season's standings. Clubs were also able to exceed their international bonus pool, but they had to pay a luxury tax for doing so. In addition, clubs that exceeded their pool by five to 10 percent were banned from signing a player for more than a $500,000 bonus the following signing period. For clubs that exceeded their pool by 10 to 15 percent, the maximum bonus they were able to offer dropped to $300,000 during the next signing period. Finally, clubs that exceeded their pool by more than 15 percent were not allowed to sign a player for more than $300,000 during the next two signing periods. You don’t lose pool money for going over, you’re just limited in what you can give any single player in either the next or next two international periods. Teams can lose pool money though….any team that is over the luxury tax threshold and signs a Major League free agent that has rejected a qualifying offer will lose $1 million from their international signing pool in the following signing period. A team that is not over the luxury tax would only forfeit $500,000 of its signing pool in the subsequent period. Teams can also trade for additional pool space. Teams that get those small market comp A picks in the draft also get more 500k more pool money, and Comp B teams get an additional million.
  13. 100% this.
  14. 700 K below slot is awesome. Makes some of those later round picks even better
  15. Almost all the high school guys are committed to one university or another. Yet, the majority of them sign if they're drafted. It's truly best to just ignore any rumours pre-draft about high school kids. THe narratives are obvious, their family will always say they are "100%" committed to University X to ensure the MLB teams they talk to are the ones that really have a shot to give them the money they want, or to ensure the team they want to play for is the one that takes them.
  16. Jays with RISP in the 3 games post all star break 8-28 .286
  17. Stroman has a 21 million dollar player option for 2024… probably as close to a guarantee as possible he turns that down right?
  18. He scored from 2nd on a single yesterday, so…that’s something I guess.
  19. No, he’s still the exact same lunatic on Twitter, hasn’t changed a bit in that regard. Dude can throw a ball well, that’s all I really care about at this point
  20. July 16 Bichette - 1 Point - Vladdy - 2 Points - LTBF Springer - 2 Points - Chapman - 3 Points - WryNGinger Jansen - 3 Points - JaysAllMighty, Spanky, JohnHavok Kirk - 4 Points - Jonn Merrifield - 6 Points - Candy Maldonado Kiermaier - 7 Points - Espinal - 7 Points - Off the bench: 10 Points -
  21. And of course the perfect hop off the mound right into the 2b glove. At least if he had to pick it off the ground it might cause him to rush the throw, maybe be a bit offline, but…nope.
  22. This guy throws a ton of 4 seamers down the pipe, Jays have to be ready to let it fly.
