You missed the obvious precisely because you weren't using your head. His stuff is so good that he doesn't need to change speeds. He still doesn't do it with any regularity.
I'm not going to argue semantics with you, but suffice to say his command was good enough in multiple innings out of the 'pen to make it plainly obvious that he had made some adjustments (and no I don't know what they were). Even in spring training, it was clear that he was ready to be a good starting pitcher.
