  1. The difference in drafting philosophy was abundantly clear even with Parker here. Big changes were clearly made I don't like that they kept him around if they didn't think he was good enough at his job. The draft is too important to screw around.
  2. He's extremely undervalued, as evidenced by the paltry return that Tampa got for him at the deadline.
  3. We're certainly going to need to add depth to the rotation. I'm not comfortable with Bolsinger and maybe Biagini as our only fallback options. We also need depth in the bullpen after Osuna and Grilli. Both of those probably have to be addressed via trade, at least in part. As for hitters, we should have an awfully lot of money to spend so I'd prefer to save our trade chips unless we can get a guy like Puig on the cheap.
  4. Why do we care what Saunders has done in 50 at-bats? That can easily be explained by some BABIP luck. Thankfully our FO isn't as naive as this forum.
  5. I don't get it. Our recent drafts have been very successful and if there was a philosophical issue then why was he allowed to conduct our latest draft?
  6. Barker: J.A. Happ had a good outing because he pitched to the score. Vetrin presents!

  8. I don't use twitter. My life is better for it.
  9. I'll give him an 8 year deal if he hits like Ortiz...
  10. The New York rain delay is the Washington nap of 2016.
  11. I've seen a lot of changes, especially at the player development level. The draft was significantly different to those of years past. Time will tell if the shift from projectable HS pitchers to more polished hitters proves to be successful. They also slowed down a number of prospects, demoting them to start the season. I was a fan of that move. I didn't want Anthopoulos to leave, but that doesn't mean I can't respect Shapiro's track record of success. The moves made so far are simply adjustments to a contending roster that haven't been good or bad as a whole. It will take a couple of seasons to really get a handle on whether their plan has worked or not. I like what they are saying so far, but we'll see what happens.
  12. Why? That's a legit point.
  13. Sure we do. I just question whether he has enough upside left to justify parting with those pieces.
  14. For the record, the Estrada and Happ signings were conceived of and negotiated by Tony LaCava, according to Shapiro. I'm sure he had some influence, but I hate to see good work by loyal and longtime executive get overlooked.
  15. Except Hanley Ramirez. I still can't believe how bad he was.
  16. All I was really pointing out is that he has the ability to punch out double digits in a single game when he has his good stuff. What Jon Harris (and most top prospects at his level) needs is more consistency. The Florida State league is a development league, not a performance league. If he finds that consistency at a higher level, like Hoffman and Sanchez did, then all is forgotten.
  17. It's clearly a no brainer to offer him the QO. Money isn't a concern for me, but term is. Something around 2/34 would be reasonable for both sides, but 3 years would be a tough decision.
  18. Also, 43 K's and 12 walks in his last 73 innings. I came away impressed the two times I watched him and the scouting reports are still positive. What I thought was encouraging is his 1.48 BB/9 in that stretch. Hopefully that indicates more consistent mechanics and improved command (he already had good control). I think we can stay in wait and see mode on the strikeouts, though there are obviously some concerns in the statistics. His back to back 11 K games earlier this year give some hope.
  19. Tellez > SmoaK
  20. Nice to see the results start to match his skill level on a more consistent basis. The stat scouts who had him out of their top 10 will have to backtrack eventually.
  21. At this point in the season, what would we get from a new backup catcher? One or two extra hits? I can't see us getting an improvement defensively considering Thole's familiarity and already decent D.
