  1. I fail to see why we wouldn't bring back a reliever that made a positive contribution to our team both on and off the field. There's no risk on a minor league deal. The pendulum has swung in the other direction where too many people hate a player because he is Canadian. Everyone needs a dose of common sense.
  2. We're getting Galvis at a reasonable cost I guess, but it's certainly an uninspired contract. He's mediocre with the bat and fangraphs has his defense as average for the past 2 seasons. If he ends up getting significant at-bats then we're in for a long season. He's not a quality regular.
  3. I'd be curious to hear their reasoning for a low risk on Eloy Jimenez, but a moderate risk on Vlad Jr. Vlad is 3 years younger and already a better player, so it's a little confusing.
  4. We should be all over Joc Pederson right now.
  5. The Hall should ignore Brandy Halladay and do the right thing. I can't see very many Phils fans getting upset. It would be like us getting mad about Paul Molitor going in as a Brewer or Dave Winfield as a Padre. Those aren't perfect comparisons, but it gets the point across. Roy considered himself a Blue Jay and made a point to retire as a Jay. His children are Canadian, it's such a big part of their life. It's a shame that his wife had to hijack this and make it all about her.
  6. He submitted a blank ballot, as to not deprive Rivera of a unanimous selection.
  7. That's pretty much what I meant when I said SRF might not make it.
  8. It would seem that one of SRF or Kevin Smith didn't make it, but they were probably pretty close. I'm curious to see where Jansen and Pardinho end up.
  9. We certainly aren't going to find many or any MLB players that speak Punjabi or Cantonese.
  10. Presumably English and French are the first two. I'm not sure about Toronto specifically, but Italian is the third most common language in Ontario.
  11. We see 30+ runs separate the best framing catchers from the worst. Catcher framing, while a skill, is essentially the umpire screwing up. That's just a small snapshot of how much they can influence a game consistently in favour of one team and against another.
  12. Very interesting question. For me it is baseball due to the home plate umpire. They have influence on every single pitch and there seems to be no consistency from game to game. We can often make surprisingly accurate predictions about the size of the size of the strike zone and score of the game before it even starts, based solely on the umpire. I've never noticed that kind of predictability in other sports. I can say pretty confidently that it is not hockey. Refs have a bad habit of evening out calls and put the whistles at crucial points.
  13. Am I mistaken or do the Orioles have a ton of money left? It could be a great opportunity for them, I hope they blow it.
  14. Rays DFA Oliver Drake. How long until we claim him?
  15. If Harper is looking at a similar deal to Machado then I would rather have him.
  16. I would welcome him back with open arms. He was useful as a middle reliever
  17. For 3.6 million I think we would have been better off just keeping Russ. That being said, we did right by him and I don't think the move is terribly harmful. We might get a useful reliever out of it.
  18. Brewers give Petricka a major league deal.
  19. Atkins, pick up AJ Cole immediately. Thank you.
  20. You're a gem, Todd.
  21. Yankees sign Troy Tulowitzki for league min. Interesting move for them.
  22. Your first statement certainly was, but you reworded it now. I'll wait to see how much money it was for, but I feel like we could have and should have made him a better offer.
  23. Those are two very contradictory statements. What did he prioritize, money or location?
  24. Looks like a reasonable contract for the Mariners as far as terms go. It's pretty limited risk when you can bail after 3 years. I thought we would be more aggressive in our pursuit, but the fact that he signed with an embarrassingly bad organization tells me that we didn't put forth a competitive offer.
  25. Some of those names are probably worse than Pannone and SRF, but I would roll the dice on Gio and Miller. Hopefully we can land Kikuchi.
