  1. They are way off. The 2021 pick is top 10 protected and goes to 2022 if it is below top 10.
  2. That's something he's never been able to do and his defense makes him almost replacement level. I'm happy to roll with our internal options at that price.
  3. I remember that Plesac/Merced trade and after looking up the details, it wasn't really that bad. Both of them played quite well for us and in trading Plesac a couple of years later, we got the legend that is Tony Batista and his 40+ home runs. We gave up a particularly useful player in Craig Wilson, but the trade overall was pretty even. For some reason, I also remember Merced gunning down a player at first on a 'single' to right. That's always really fun to see.
  4. Can we just perma ban this guy? ^^
  5. I expect that he would, but there would have to be an understanding regarding his training regimen and perhaps an apology.
  6. I sincerely wish all of you a Merry Christmas. I hope everyone has a great day with all of their friends and family. Here's to another great year of Jays discussions and a lot more wins in 2020. -Grant
  7. I'm skeptical of a lot of these points. I think he exaggerates parts and simplifies a lot of the details. Surely a lot of it is true in a general sense, but I'd take it with a grain of salt.
  8. That's pretty risky for a reliever. I'm glad the Jays took a pass. There are better ways to spend the money.
  9. I mean an average CF and an exceptional RF. People are too quick to jump on small samples of extremely variable statistics.
  10. Grichuk is an exceptional defensive player.
  11. Jack Morris, Roger Clemens, Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor. Atkins said it well the other day when questioned on whether FA's want to come to Toronto. To paraphrase him, the players had no concerns about the country and just wanted to know how close we were to winning. The Ryu deal moves us closer to that goal and when we reach it, the players will want to be here, just like the free agents in the early 90's did.
  12. I don't think we need to make a long term commitment in the outfield just yet. The situation in the rotation forced us to take some bold action, but I'd prefer to save the rest of the long term dollars for another day. Just sign EE and see what our young guys can do in the outfield.
  13. That would be massive. It would have to be some major prospect capital coming from the Dodgers. May, Downs, and maybe Ruiz in play too.
  14. I like where we stand with the rotation now. It's not going to win us the division or anything, but it's a reliable group that will still allow our more promising youngsters (Thornton, Kay, Pearson) to develop. It was extremely important to show our young players that we are serious about winning and at least give them a fighting chance at a WC spot if a lot of stuff goes well. I think if we add another bat and a couple of relievers then Shatkins will be deserving of an A grade.
  15. With Shaw's positional flexibility and inability to hit LHP, I think you can have Edwing split time at 1B and still have half of the DH at-bats for guys like Fisher and/or rest days for regulars.
  16. The only purpose he serves is being an excellent hitter in a position of need, a good mentor to the young latino players, and a fan favourite. Other than that I don't know why we'd sign him to a zero risk deal.
  17. It could also be that the Jays don't have the best offer, but he wants to play here. It's all speculation at this point, but he will very likely pitch for us if we pay him. Boras clients usually take the money.
  18. I would enjoy watching this lineup: 6 Bichette 4 Biggio 5 Guerrero 0 Encarnacion 3 Shaw 7 Gurriel 9 Grichuk 8 Hernandez 2 Jansen
  19. Clearly I don't know how to make that bigger, but I assure you it's worth reading.
  20. If you hire Scott Boras as your agent then you are all about the money. If we pay Ryu then he will come, no excuses. The Blue Jays offer a great opportunity for him to be the ace of a staff and lead a young team into playoff contention.
  21. It seems obvious by now that he was by far the team's top target. If they like him then I'll be perfectly happy to pay him 4/80 or whatever. It would be better than that Keuchel contract.
  22. The Seager offer is awfully enticing if they believe he can get to a 6 WAR level. I would seriously consider that if they add another top 10 prospect.
  23. A couple of interesting parts of that interview were not mentioned. He said they really wanted Kyle Gibson, but he would only go to Texas. They also made offers in excess of 100 million to players this offseason.
  24. Names are not applied scientifically by any means, but a forkball usually has a slightly different grip (not on the laces) and is slower than a split fingered fastball. It's a bit like a changeup where you palm it more to reduce the velocity.
  25. I've seen some call the splitter a forkball. I can't remember anyone throwing that since Tom Henke.
