  1. Are you drunk or something? I said that he signed there due to opportunity, using that exact word, and have never deviated from that assertion. I don't know what you are even trying to discuss, since it's pretty clear that you agree with me entirely.
  2. I think it would prudent to do so when their second starter was below replacement level last year and they have no clear options for the last 2 rotation spots.
  3. What you're describing is something called 'opportunity'. I already said that so I guess we'll be deranged together.
  4. Who said that? His contract incentives are for a starting pitcher and they have pretty much nothing in the rotation after Rodriguez.
  5. Opportunity trumps the chance to play for a specific franchise for the vast majority of players. I don't agree with you that their franchise history was a bigger deciding factor than their pitiful pitching staff.
  6. He was almost certainty lured there by the promise of being a starter. Nobody would want to pitch for a mediocre team in Fenway park without some extra incentive. They only have 1 healthy major league calibre starter so he'll get a good look.
  7. If we get Gant's performance from Hatch then that's probably a win in my opinion.
  8. Particularly a closer who almost exclusively pitches after their team has finished batting.
  9. All I said is that is was plausible for a player in the bullpen to not hear the bangs. Even Fiers was unaware of the cheating for a long time. It wasn't openly shared with all of the players. No other players are willing to take the step of relinquishing their ring, so I commend him for that.
  10. Ken Giles is planning to return his 2017 World Series ring. He says he wasn't aware of the cheating and that is certainly plausible. Either way, I applaud his integrity.
  11. If Steven Matz is available as MLBTR says then we should be all over that. He'd be an excellent 5th starter and 2nd lefty.
  12. Jose Bautista coming back as a two way player. He's hitting 94 on the mound and also learned a slider from Stroman. Good luck to him.
  13. Not very bold. He did that last season.
  14. Bo Bichette wins the batting title Oakland wins the West Division Home runs drop dramatically league wide
  15. You're extremely slender, but that doesn't mean someone heavier is fat. I'm built a lot like Manoah at 6'6 230 with a 46 inch chest. I could perhaps lose 10 pounds, but would start to be unhealthy after that.
  16. If Bummer's groundball rate and velocity spikes are maintained then he is probably worth it, but this seems like an unnecessary risk in an arb system that doesn't reward players like Bummer.
  17. That's probably Alford for now, but I'm sure that the outfield mix is going to change a lot in the coming seasons.
  18. I don't know that it's reasonable to forego serious punishment of the Astros just because we suspect that other teams are cheating as well. Players do use PEDs and they are punished. The red sox also used technology to steal signs and they will presumably be punished. I'm not suggesting that every rule is enforced, but this is what they know right now. If it becomes clear in the future that foreign substances (or some other forms of cheating) are a major problem in the future then they can be compared to sign stealing at that time and proper punishment can be applied. Vacating a title would send a message and put a stop to much of the team wide cheating in my opinion.
  19. It isn't nonsense at all. There has got to be a line that, if a team crosses it, the title is vacated. Your anything goes attitude is not the way to approach this. You obviously think that the Astros cheating wasn't very bad and that's valid. It's also valid to think that they crossed that line and should actually be punished. It's up for debate as to where this fits on the spectrum between corking a bat and the Black Sox scandal.
  20. I believe that Paul Beeston was one of two team presidents (or maybe 3) that did not want Rob Manfred to be the Commissioner.
  21. I'm surprised at how polarizing this incident has been. Is it wrong to masturbate in your car? Of course it is. That being said, Seinfeld made light of a similar crime when Jerry and George got nailed for urinating in a parking garage. The only thing that got hurt was their pride and it's the same for this incident. I'd love to hear what some opposing batters will have to say during the season.
  22. What makes someone an ideal 7th hitter? How does the skill set differ from an ideal 6th hitter?
  23. He actually said that it is happening. Just not in the timeline that was reported.
