  1. Nice Alford! Perfect guy to get a leadoff hit. This is one heck of a game.
  2. No 100 loss team this year at least. I got a little worried for a while there.
  3. I didn't say that I knew anything. This tired old argument that we don't know what the offers are and therefore can't speculate is ridiculous. We can compare with previous trades and make some educated guesses. For example, we know that trading an MVP calibre player returning from an injury still usually nets a solid return. We got nothing and he was very good for Cleveland. We know that pitchers with less value than Stroman have received much more highly rated prospects and more of them. I like the guys we got but those are just the facts. They didn't like the personality of either and were eager to get rid of both. That's why they were never offered extensions despite being very clear that they wanted to stay. Same with EE. Anyways, I wasn't even intending to trash Shapiro with my comments. I like that he doesn't care what fans think when it comes to trades. Now that he's cleaned house we can get to the business of building a contender.
  4. When has our FO given even the slightest indication that they care about who fans like? They have dumped several fan favourites for pennies on the dollar just to get rid of holdovers from the previous regime.
  5. Griffin Conine and Adam Kloffenstein named BA minor league all-stars. No mention of other standouts like Kay, Kirk, and Martinez.
  6. This is hilarious. I want to try it now.
  7. Sergio Santos could get it up there but we didn't know it at the time. You have to keep in mind that velocity has gone wayyyy up recently. Kelvim Escobar was a major flamethrower when he was pumping in 94-95 as a starter when he came up.
  8. I think that Trent Thornton deserves more time in the rotation. He's held his own as a rookie and has the stuff to be better. I don't mind Jacob Waguespack as a bulk pitcher. Zeuch and SRF could join him in this category but we can't really say right now. Matt Shoemaker and Ryan Borucki have been good for us but they both have serious injuries so we'll see. Suffice to say we need at least 2 good pitching additions.
  9. I agree that we'll have 3 catchers but the smart play is probably to get that third guy after the Rule 5 deadline.
  10. Looked pretty solid to me.
  11. The CFL has it's strong points. It's faster paced and more offense oriented, which I enjoy. I find NFL games can be a bit boring with so many stoppages and breaks for advertisements. Then there's fun rules like no fair catches and having the backfield in motion. I've never met a football fan that doesn't like those rules better. The CFL also has more history and better rivalries because the teams play each other several times a season. Go to a Riders-Bombers game and you'll get a European soccer atmosphere. I've seen the Vikings in Green Bay and it's not as good as Regina. Of course, there's a talent gap, but having fun at games isn't all about talent. Backup NFL players and good CFL players are about the same anyways. It's not like watching amateurs. I'm not trying to start a debate but that's why I like the CFL. In a nutshell it's a better game played by worse players.
  12. I can ascribe whatever personal responsibility I want to the person. This is an opinion, not a courtroom. Wealthy professional athletes have every option in the world to deal with pain. As sad as this situation is, we can't always place blame on others.
  13. That's the internet for you. The same words can be interpreted in many ways.
  14. What? You are 100% responsible for what you put in your own body. Everyone knows how dangerous opioids can be. Also, I can just picture a doctor going. "Hey Tyler, take this oxycodone and just for kicks, top it off with some fentanyl and a 26er of rye." Don't be ridiculous.
  15. We can be reasonably confident that the doctor (if it was a doctor) did not tell him to take multiple kinds of opioids and alcohol at the same time.
  16. I don't know the exact situation but everyone, especially athletes, knows the dangers of these drugs. We all have a personal responsibility to take care of ourselves. It really sucks that Skaggs had a costly lapse in judgment.
  17. It sounds as if the opioids may have been supplied by a team employee, but the responsibility is 100% on the person who took them. It's so sad to see that players still don't know any better. Hopefully this tragedy will wake some people up.
  18. Atkins seems really high on him. There are some high groudball and low K guys like Soroka and Keller that have found success in today's homerun heavy game so I think there's a chance that Zeuch could be useful.
  19. Even if he struggles, I'd much rather see a guy like Romano pitch over Jason Adam and his xFIP over 7.
  20. Comedy of errors this inning.
  21. If he cared about his teammates then he would run at full speed until the ball clears the fence. He cared more about pimping the HR and getting attention for himself. That is blatantly obvious. I've got no issue with celebrations foe the most part but don't do it when the ball is still in play.
  22. I expect that he could be a candidate for the AFL as well.
  23. At 29 years of age I think that we should keep using him as an opener or a reliever.
  24. It's hard to understand how the Rangers are a .500 team and we are one of the worst in the league. Things have changed so much recently.
  25. I understand what you are saying but that was written last year. Anyways, I'm happy that we have him now. He's earning himself a spot on next year's roster. If we intend to stick with questionable starters like Waguespack and Pannone then an opener like Font will be valuable.
