  1. Should have hired Gibby.
  2. I've always gotten the sense that the owners are pushing the DH rule on to unwilling players.
  3. Basketball's top show, Inside the NBA, is constantly referencing how much better basketball used to be and how modern players couldn't cut it back then. Literally every show, multiple times. Regardless, it's very entertaining due to the great personalities.
  4. I don't know the rankings, but Steve Karsay was considered one of the league's elite pitching prospects when we dealt him.
  5. Four times in 4 years from what I recall.
  6. Dealing for Arenado next offseason would probably be better value than signing Betts, but that 2021 opt out is just too scary.
  7. Nice summary from Shi Davidi: "Ideally, each Hall of Famer should have a real legacy, on a team, a city, a sport, a country. From the kids who grew up playing baseball on Larry Walker Field in Maple Ridge, the Rockies franchise retiring his No. 33, to the Canadians, young and old, he still coaches on the national team, Walker did, which is why I feel he’s worthy no matter how you frame the evaluation."
  8. Nice signing for the Twins. Their offense gets even more ridiculous.
  9. Several of the players spoke out about the cheating. That's at least a part of how they got caught.
  10. Manfred was awfully forward with his criticism of Luhnow when announcing the punishment. He's alleged to have stolen information from the Cardinals, along with numerous other instances of cheating. I think a lifetime ban for him was in order, certainly more than it was for Coppolella or Taubmann. The rest of the punishments for the Astros are reasonable in my opinion. As for Cora, it seems very likely that the same system was implemented in 2018. I'd like to see similar punishments if that was the case.
  11. It was the most recent mlb headline on rotoworld so I just posted it here. Maybe it was official today like you said. Also of note after I looked again, Mitch Nay signed with the Mariners.
  12. Jays sign James Dykstra from Indy ball.
  13. That won't be necessary. You just have to suck it up and take the full penalty for this guy.
  14. The Mets want to trade Lowrie and Dominic Smith in a package deal. There's an obvious fit on our roster for both a good bat and a backup shortstop. Smith can split time at 1B/DH while Shaw gets time at other positions and sits vs lefties.
  15. Darwin Barney to manage the Rangers AAA team.
  16. I'm not interested in a long conversation about this, but I've read in several places that he works out with an intensity which exceeds that of most other players. He follows a very strict health regimen to keep himself in shape. I'm sure there are some players that do the same, but I feel better about betting on his health than the many other guys who take a more relaxed approach.
  17. 1. We've acquired what we needed most, namely 3 good starting pitchers. I had my doubts, but they pulled it off. There's work to be done in the bullpen and perhaps in the outfield, but they get an incomplete A at this point. 2. Anderson and Roark (B-)- We picked them up for market value. It's hard to grade until we see then perform. Ryu (A+)- Everyone had doubts, but we got an ace at a reasonable term. Well done Shatkins. Shaw (B+)- Shaw is a risk after the season he just had, but there's a lot to like. Good bounceback potential, low salary, and extra control. 3. I think that several moves are needed to address the bullpen. There isn't a ton out there so I'm not entirely confident that we can cobble together a solid group. I'm more confident that we can get some OF/DH depth and a competent backup shortstop. 4. I would still be looking to trade Giles. If a good offer comes along now then jump on it. He will also have plenty of suitors at the deadline. 5. I think Pearson will be up after the super 2 deadline. There's no point in wearing out his arm in the minors when he's ready. 6. Vlad has some lofty expectations to live up to. I think we'll continue to see improvements on defense and with the bat. People forget how young he is when trashing the defense. I think he could still be competent there if we are patient and he gets in shape.
  18. With the way that JD takes care of his body, he could very well still be good in 4 years. The Twins offense will be even better with him.
  19. Starting these threads will be the highlight of Bob's year.
  20. I can gather what he means from context, but 'cnoetituve' is an egregious spelling error.
  21. We lost it, but get back 50k for every game that Ryu loses in a Jays uniform before July of 2021.
  22. An all-star with a .546 OPS and a grand total of 14 extra base hits. Amazing.
  23. I truly enjoyed reading that they really wanted Travis Shaw, but couldn't afford to pay him 4 million. By now, I think it's clear that Betts doesn't want to play there or they haven't offered him a fair contract. Next offseason will be interesting.
  24. I'd be surprised if the original ask from Betts' agent doesn't approach Mike Trout's 12/430 extension. He won't get that, but over 300 million is within the realm of possibility.
  25. The FO went hard after Fisher and I think that they intend to give him some significant playing time.
