You may be right, I can't really say. However, I think there is enough to merit a bit of skepticism when comparing his exit velocities to big leaguers.

In cases where teams have signed all of their other players, they may simply offer the maximum amount. I expect that to be the case with Austin Martin.

There are a lot of studies out there that all seem to show higher exit velocity from aluminium bats. I don't think expanded playoffs are happening, but it's hard to sift through all of the constantly changing information.

You make an excellent point. Exit velocities for aluminium bats are significantly higher. I'll want to see some minor league data before I start comparing Martin to current major league players.

This wet rag thing is a controversy waiting to happen. A third party or the umpires will have to hand them out on the field each half inning or we'll be talking about foreign substances every game.

I enjoy some aspects of National League strategy, but I agree that a universal DH would be a net positive overall.

I hear you, but finally making it was even sweeter. It would mean so much less with sub .500 teams making the playoffs.

If I've noticed anything from these negotiations, it's that the players seem more galvanized and cohesive than they have been in recent memory. I'm actually pretty happy with this result because it keeps the playoffs intact. I feared that the expanded version would not disappear after the 2 years.

They don't have to agree to expanded playoffs for 2 seasons or a universal DH in this scenario.

The only undrafted player of note so far is Kale Emshoff to the Royals. That isn't to say that the others won't be good players, but he certainly could have been drafted in the 4th or 5th round.

Excellent. The other guys should also be around slot and then we can give the extra 5% to Martin.

I think you severely underestimate the value of thirty two additional playoff series to the owners. That's a big concession and an enormous money maker for the owners. I've read that a team that makes it to the World Series makes more in those ~20 games than they do in the 162 game regular season.

MLB has already stated that they unilaterally implement a shortened season if there is no agreement. Players will get their full prorated salaries for each and every game. That's already a part of their contract, it's the baseline. What incentive do the players have to play 76 games at 50% salary (owners last proposal), instead of 50 games at 100% salary. That's less money for more work.

MLB had the power to unilaterally implement that the entire time. A concession to me would be something greater than the baseline. Regarding the Braves TV deal, teams like the Phillies with local deals also get similar amounts. Their deal is worth roughly 200 million annually.

Regardless of your opinion on some of the points, they are things that the owners pushed for and received. The owners signed players to contracts knowing full well that something like this could come to pass. That's why they make hundreds of millions of dollars, as shown with the Atlanta Braves. The Braves also show that the majority of revenues do not come from the gate. I think that players need to make some further concessions, but it's been entirely one-sided so far. It's time for the owners to play ball and put a real proposal on the table. They will make plenty of money with the expanded playoffs for two seasons. That means an absolutely massive influx of profits for 2021. For a team like the Blue Jays that could mean the difference between 0 playoff games and 10-20 games, just as a hypothetical.

It should be noted that the owners pushed for all of the points that you mentioned and have received them without making any concessions of their own. There was also a sizeable reduction in the schedule, another huge sticking point for owners. The proposed schedule would see the playoffs start the day after the NBA finals.

89 games is a 25 game reduction from the players. They have also agreed to expanded playoffs for two seasons along with no salary or service time for players that don't play. This is a positive proposal with significant concessions from MLBPA. If the owners truly want a season then they should accept something close to this deal. The onus is on them now.

Jim Callis, in a Sportsnet interview, thinks that Zac Veen is the Jays top target with Max Meyer our top pitching target. He also thinks that the Royals take Veen at number 4.

I'll hate both sides if we don't get any baseball soon. I don't care who is greedy, who is right, or who is wrong. People are looking to players and owners to act like grown men and figure out a solution so we can get some desperately needed entertainment. Everyone else is doing their part. They need to do the same.

I'm a little puzzled as well considering the organization has had five 1st overall picks along with really hyped players like Matt Harvey and David Wright.
