  1. Josh Reddick gives the Twins a run with a lazy misplay in right field. Crazy to see that in the playoffs.
  2. Shaw will likely play in all 3 games. This is all hands on deck, full team effort. I can see him coming up with a big hit against a guy like Chaz Roe.
  3. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-continue-buck-baseball-tradition-start-shoemaker-game-1/ Only point c holds any water and I can't really answer that without doing a whole lot of data collection and number crunching to get the standard deviation. However, given the big sample size and very large difference from the expected result, it's highly likely that it is significant. It's no surprise or fluke that game 1 is more important than the others. The stats strongly back that conclusion and so does the traditional wisdom. You'll never agree even if someone did an overwhelmingly convincing analysis, but so be it. That's just what you do.
  4. 126-49, I found it. All things being equal, you would expect about 116 wins, but game 1 is obviously more important than the rest of the games in a series I can't say about game 2 specifically without stats, but game 1 in a series is more important than games 2 through 6 collectively.
  5. I'm sure that's how they'll play it, but MLB tabbed him as one of the main perpetrators in Houston and he admitted it. He was also investigated as a part of the red sox sign stealing, which they were also punished for. Thia is a person who should not be in baseball. It's certainly worse than Pete Rose in my opinion.
  6. Dodgers win over Brewers.
  7. I like this move better than starting Walker. Give Shoemaker 2 times through and depending on what they do with the lineup, use the bullpen accordingly. There's no reason you can't do Shoe for 4, and then 5 different relievers for an inning each. Everyone is fully rested.
  8. Worst pitching in the history of baseball can't be blamed on Roenicke. He was never going to last more than one year. Do you think they bring back Cora? It would be an incredibly scummy move, but I could see it.
  9. It can be partly explained by his mediocre exit velocity and lack of speed, but there's still a lot of bad luck. He's remarkably similar to Cavan Biggio minus the BABIP. Same K and BB percentages, same ISO, same EV. He's going to be really good soon.
  10. I can't recall the exact number, but Sportsnet had a graphic earlier today with team's record after winning game 1 of a playoff series. It was 124-39 or something, a huge discrepancy. I won't pretend to know the reasons, but game 1 is more important than game 2. It's a fact.
  11. It's particularly surprising to see Huckaby go. He did an objectively good job preparing players like Alejandro Kirk at the alternate site and is seen as a future manager in MLB. It always seemed like we were pretty fortunate to have him. It's unfortunate to see great people like Quantrill and Hentgen lose their jobs, but I have no reason not to trust the FO with those decisions.
  12. I still believe that Danny Jansen can be a valuable starter on a championship calibre team.
  13. Looks awfully close to Lourdes Gurriel Jr, but I don't think the SB are right.
  14. It's as if not knowing the pitch selection makes it harder to hit.
  15. Reese McGuire posted sub 10% K rates at the same levels as Kirk, so I wouldn't use that as the sole measuring stick, but he looks good so far.
  16. A hybrid of Tim Wakefield and Nolan Ryan that throws some knuckling chin music to every batter to keep them off balance.
  17. I didn't expect to see Stanton in the lineup
  18. If you're implying that another team wouldn't turn around Glasnow then I don't really agree. His stuff is so good, I think he would be at a similar or better level with any team that develops pitching reasonably well. We're talking 4.1 WAR in 3 seasons.
  19. I feel like it could be effective if we use Robbie Ray against the Yankees. Start out with Hatch for 2 innings and force them to alter their lineup.
  20. I'm sorry that his projections were similar to Upton, but glad that it somehow made another board meme.
  21. I imagine that to be something like JP Arencibia catching RA Dickey.
  22. The Cubs jumped out to a 25-6 lead after 4(!!) Innings, but the Philles scored 14 in the final 2 innings to make it close. I can only imagine the poor manager pulling out his hair. Fifty years later the Phillies got their revenge and beat the Cubs 23-22 in extra innings against Bruce Sutter. I'd love to see video of that one. Edit:
  23. He's already got better plate discipline than that.
