    If Smoak is up to bat in a tie game with one out, bottom nine and runner on third in the WC game I don't see how you can be hoping for Smoak to strikeout. I find it quite funny that you're telling me that I don't understand fWAR, then you immediately try and tell me that Fangraphs should view being able to play more than one position (piss poorly, even!) as a positive. Willingness to keep your job and do what your manager tells you to do as a journeyman isn't accounted by Fangraphs. I too find this is a major flaw in the WAR calculation.

    Yup going forward. Practically or not, it's still projected to be above average. It's not accurate to discredit it just because it isn't very much above average.

    Buck is harmless. He catches a lot of s*** and fondles the Yankees (Jeter's) testicles a little too much but other than that he's fine. Pat is way worse in my opinion. Buck and Siddall this weekend in Anaheim was actually a good combination. I just like to rag on Buck and assume every error he makes is because he's drunk. Two of my favourite, signature Buck calls are: -When he gets overly excited on a "deep fly ball" -"A lil looper" Feel free to add more!

    There isn't a single Blue Jay fan that actively roots for Colabello to strikeout when he's up to bat. What many posters around here want is for others to accept that what he's done so far isn't indicative of his true talent level. Just because he's hit .330/.372/.521 on a .400 BABIP doesn't mean we should expect him to continue hitting like that. With a FO that has a history of making poor roster decisions and ignoring things like roster flexibility, it's easy to see why some fans might welcome some regression from Colabello.

    Nabru asked why Justin Smoak's Def value on Fangraphs was a negative, if he's viewed as a an above average defender at first base. You hypothesized that he is not a good defender, and cited his lack of range as the reason why his Def value is negative. That actually isn't true, and I explained why. Very few first basemen will accumulate a positive rating because of the positional adjustment. Def can be used to compare the value of all players relative to their position. A negative Def rating at first base does not equate to poor defender.

    If you set the threshold at 500 innings defensively played at first base, there are exactly zero defenders who have a Def rating that is positive. Surely you're not implying that there are no above average defenders at 1B right? Because that's impossible. The reason is because of the positional adjustment of playing first base (~ -12.5/600 PA). Not because of his eye tested poor range.
