    Well, he's 17. By the time he's 22 most scouts project that he will be very large and probably slow. He's a large, thick kid. Not the same body as his dad. Vlad Sr.'s rookie cards list him as 6'2", 165 lbs. Vlad Jr. is ALREADY listed as 6'1", 200 lbs. 200 lbs at 17!!!! He'll probably break into the league with the body that his dad had at ~30 years old.

    Vlad's BB rate was very low compared to other hitters in his era with comparable power (.200+ ISO). 26th lowest out of 145. His K% was EXTREMELY low compared to those guys. 5th lowest out of 145. He wasn't unique though. Nomar actually walked less and struck out less, while hitting for power. Mouses Alou and Carlos Lee had similar offensive profiles. Luis Gonzalez too. Albert Belle and Tino Martinez had only slightly higher K rates. Albert Pujols sticks out as truly a generational talent, having struck out less often than Vlad, lauded for his preternatural contact skills, while hitting for significantly more power. Kind of a shame to see Pujols languish as a below average player these days.

    IF SCORING runs wasn’t already enough of a task for New Hampshire, it will be even more challenging now without slugger Rowdy Tellez in the lineup. Tellez left Monday’s game with a right wrist injury and has remained out of the lineup since.     I think it's dumb to assume he's going to be the same type of hitter as his dad. Vlad is going to be a patient, plodding 3B with massive power. Like a Troy Glaus!

    How is he "ultra-aggressive" if he is walking as much as he's striking out? That just seems like he's patient AND dangerous, considering the power is there. If he were ultra-aggressive he would be chasing...

    Francisco Liriano basically has more walks than k's this season, and he goes 13:0 tonight. lol

    For everyone that emerged this season, someone has fallen off the map (Greene, Alford, DJ Davis). Toronto is probably around 20th in farm rankings. Maybe slightly higher?

    I can't disagree. They didn't need to do this Smoak deal now. They could have felt out the market in the offseason first.

    Smoak can easily be benched or traded or whatever at that salary. It's what the Rays gave LoMo. It's the going rate for a platoon 1B. Doesn't block anybody or impede any future moves.

    Lourdes turns 23 this year... I think since he's either already old enough to be immune, or he will be once he's no longer 22.

    Yeah I forgot how old he actually is. I knew he wasn't a youngster but I guess 32 is considerably over the hill in the post-steroid (maybe?) era.

    Syndergaard was drafted in like 2010... and we had our first draft in the offseason before 2013. Most of the guys you name weren't 2012 picks. Dinger, I think, was asking about fresh HS draftees.

    He got less money and less AAV than Yasmany Tomas, which really makes no f***ing sense.

    I don't think any high school players picked in the 2013 MLB draft have even debuted. For the most part, the good college picks from that draft are just breaking through this year. But a number of high school picks from the 2012 draft, which fed our first MiLB draft, have debuted. Some good ones too.

    I dunno, when Dombrowski trades a prospect they generally never blossom. Contreras instantly turned into the most productive and valuable player in your deal. .400 wOBA catcher, wow! And for Sabathia+! wow

    Because they had Dustin Ackley and Nick Franklin and Brad Miller and Joe McBlow and more 2B than they could shake a stick at!
