  8. Watch The Battered Bastards of Baseball if you haven't already. Really neat little sports documentary.
  9. It seems like it was instinctual -- like the play was so routine and he is so good at it that, it was second nature and muscle memory. I don't think it was show boating.
  10. The WBC is lucky that all of these close games are happening. If there wasn't a whole lot of on field entertainment, it would be a clusterf***. Lots of players are are commenting negatively about things like security, amenities, the rules, the organization... yeesh. From a Canadian perspective, Ernie Whitt immediately whining about not having enough talent came off pretty negatively. The WBC is also lucky that Sal Perez apparently avoided major injury.
  11. Says the guy who just traded for Gleyber Torres
  12. Ha, Bundy kind of relit the candle last year at least a little bit. He's positioned as a post-post-hype breakout guy this year. But him just being a league average SP would be a huge success.
  13. Jeff Zimmerman‏ @jeffwzimmerman Lucas Giloito sitting at 92 mph on his fastball. Little to no movement on it. woof. baseball is cruel. Giolito is burned out, before he even began. That's like a 55 fastball, depending on what he can ramp it up to...
  14. Why would either of those be surprising?
  15. And then to be fair, the best of Farnsworth. I think maybe he just sucked at scouting pitching. "Tellez reminds me a lot of David Ortiz athletically. Sew a super athletic upper body with good rotational mechanics onto a stiff, unathletic pair of legs, and you get Ortiz and Tellez. They may even have comparable raw power, the difference being Ortiz’ ability to utilize that power effectively with a better swing path for putting the ball in the air. The ball jumps off Tellez’ bat, but he’s very choppy getting to contact, limiting his power mostly to pitches up in the zone, where his plane is forced to level out more. What may save him from being a slugger who doesn’t slug enough is his raw hitting ability: Tellez has shown better contact rates than you’d expect and, partially as a result, the potential for a plus hit tool."
  16. Farnsworth was really bad. He had some interesting ideas but the work was way over his head. He could have been one part of a good prospect team. "I hate player comps, and I may enrage more people with this, but I don’t think there’s much separating [Ryan] Weber from a guy like Dallas Keuchel."
  17. Ouch, call his IT/web guy.
  18. Karel Pilar has two walks today. Patience improving rapidly with his new mechanics and comfort.
  19. Of course he does a good job. I really appreciate outlets that take the time to provide present/future grades for every tool, for every prospect worthy of making an organizations top ~20. Fangraphs is kind of the only place that does that. BP has moved away from listing tool grades, and has drifted into the more vague descriptive/written territory where some tools will be referenced with specific grades and others won't necessarily be. And they rarely grade a prospect not in team's top 10, unless they pop up in an eyewitness report (which really is the gold mine within BP, and the only thing worth paying for.) BA doesn't list tool grades for all of their prospects. Similar to BP right now. There's great content on BA but you have to be a reader - not a data hunter. 2080 is cool but doesn't produce all-encompassing content right now. They do produce tool grades if a player appears in the "reports" section but not in their organizational rankings or overview. MLB seems to actually apply tool grades but they are not very clear... are they probable outcomes or ceiling grades? How to they project future vs present? The written content beneath the grades is also completely useless. ERIC LONGENHAGEN is arguably producing the best prospect content on the internet right now, all by himself. He is examining organizations in depth, providing sensible analysis, sensible rankings, good written content, and clear and sensible (and statistically digestible!) present/future grades for all tools for all noteworthy prospects. WOW!!!
  20. Disagree, slightly. It would be an OK outcome but a league average hitter with notably below average SS defense should not be regarded as a "great" outcome for a top ~5 prospect.
  21. It should also be noted that Cyborg has a bottom half LoD team now. He's not that smart of a robot tbh.
  22. Miami isn't that great. The park kills Yelich's impact, Stanton always gets a season ending injury, and Ozuna is a fart.
