Fine in theory but it probably takes a shocking overpay to get DJL or Turner to come to Toronto, over their current teams who have all the money in the world and should be trying to retain.

Yeah the cost was less because of Price BUT there is a talent gap between Mookie and Lindor IMO. And Verdugo is good but I wouldn’t call him a stud. I don’t think Toronto would need to include Biggio, necessarily...

It probably does not hurt him that the Machado and Harper mega contracts did not turn into immediate nightmares, yeah. The 2021 free agent class isn't amazing at the top (Realmuto, Springer, Bauer...) but the 2022 class COULD be insane. I think for shortstops alone Francisco Lindor, Javier Baez, Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, and Trevor Story could all be FA!?

The trade and contract markets for Lindor were basically set by the Machado situation

There is actually a growing consensus in the saber community that modern measurements of catcher value are still missing out on an awful lot. Lots of great catchers are probably immensely undervalued by any current version of WAR.

I think in hindsight the only real mistake Buntoyo made was using AJ Cole in game 1. In a 3 game series you have to just empty the barrel in order of talent, if a game is very close. Nate Pearson was evidently ready and would have been throwing 101 in his recent mound work. It sucked to see him dominate in a blowout loss. What might have been if Pearson threw two shutdown innings after Ray left game 1... Today the White Sox took Dane Dunning out after two singles in the first inning because Matt Olson was up and they had Garrett Crochet in the pen. AJ Cole may have been used later on but no manager should lead with their ~5th best RP. It's the lesser version of Zach Britton watching Ubaldo Jimenez blow it.

Below average based on the newfangled statcast defensive metric. I will also say that he is a fringe SS based on my personal eye test. I see average SS tools at best.

Bo would probably be a fantastic 3B. In a miracle scenario where one of Groshans or Martin are somehow a solid SS this could all work out. Bo-Groshans-Biggio-Vlad across the IF and Martin in CF. or maybe Groshans-Martin-Bo-Vlad across the IF and Biggio in the OF. None of Bo, Martin, or Groshans seem to be for sure long-term shortstops though.
