If left to his own devices a guy like Charlie Montoyo would just let Anderson come out for the 6th.
Decisions like that are coming from above, based on agreed upon managerial strategies.
You can also rest assured that statistically it is probably the right move regardless of result.
You've said dumber things than this. With a good bullpen and guys who can go long like Merryweather, Kay, Hatch, Gooch, etc. the leash on Ray should be short.
This is that time in deadline day where we start to think that maybe Toronto won't do anything.
That might be disappointing but I would be fine if they don't make a trade today.
- They already made a decent splash with Walker. His first start should be a good illustration of how much that will help the team.
- They are very likely to be the 8th playoff team no matter what. Small to medium additions are not going to move the needle much on their playoff odds against the elite teams.
- It's very difficult to add controllable, impact talent as you can see from the hefty prices for Austin Nola and Clevinger.
- The team should not be in the process of spending large from the farm to compete in the short term. They are not in the same position as the Padres. The core + the serious prospects should be kept intact for a few years.
Keep in mind that this is for the poopy 2021 NPD. It's not like this is a lottery for Torkelson. That might influence how important everyone thinks it is.
I'm sure there are some good prospects available and there might be some foreign assets in the offseason but for the most part these first round picks will not be first round picks.
I think a couple of those comps are a bit fat but maybe I am biased.
Jansen >> Hedges (control)
Gurriel > Naylor (talent)
Manoah > Quantrill
Arias = Orelvis
Cantillo > Kloffenstein
I don't actually know enough about Owen Miller to even try to compare him to Miguel Hiraldo.
If you change Jansen to McGuire then the list might be pretty close in total value. But still might be too heavy on Toronto's side.
I wonder if Cleveland is getting Francisco Mejia back? More likely they would want Hedges.
The deal will need to be centred around someone like Abrams or Patino or Campusano.
Josh Naylor could make sense but he kind of sucks.
Wil Myers fits the Indians but I don't know how they make the money work.
Speaking of this, we need to decide on how to do the lottery in this league.
I actually have a conflict of interest because my team is bad. Might need to farm out this decision.
