  1. Hoffman's stuff appears largely the same, but he is really throwing less FB and more Splitters. His command appears much better so far. He's an interesting reliever. Found that splitter years ago, but it was his third weapon. He was a 40% slider guy with Philadelphia. Tried to be more of a three pitch guy last year, with disastrous results. Interesting and surprising that he is now a 40% splitter guy. His overall Stuff+ does not support this kind of K rate though. A good chunk of that is a mirage. Worth noting, however, that his velo is slightly up on everything. If the command improvements hold, he should be very good. I guess splitters are hard to run through the Stuff models so there is also the possibility that it is an elite pitch but the models don't recognize it.
  2. It's true The role they have assumed fits him best is a platoon player who can hit LHP and low velo and is an acceptable but poor defender in LF. But on the stat sheet, in his career, he has actually hit RHP better. Whether this is his true talent or not is a different question. And he is basically a perfectly average defender at both 2B and LF for his career. And not a baserunning liability. We will probably never know what Davis Schneider would look like as a near full time player. He's a batting eye god - elite BB% and almost never chases. And he's a great sweet spot / barrel hitter as well. You could compare him to a hitter like Max Muncy, honestly. Or Torkelson/Hoskins but if they could play a decent LF. We will probably never know.
  3. How about Davis Schneider Comes off the bench, works two walks, scores two huge runs This guy is so underappreciated. Almost always has a good plate appearance
  4. Good job by Louis They had Blowtani on the ropes through 3 innings (60 P) and then just... gave away a bunch of PAs. Sigh.
  5. I think it's just a few players being lost. Mainly Lukes, but Kirk was doing this above his norms as well. And Barger was chasing way too much.
  6. The team is too aggressive. #3 in MLB in o-swing% and #2 in overall swing% Yes, #3 in contact%... but 26th/30 in barrel rate Basically relying on the BABIP gods and it hasn't been working so far (.264, rank 22) Last year the team was #1 in contact but not this aggressive, and middle of the pack in barrel rate
  7. Worth monitoring - Nathan Lukes' ISO and BB% collapsed in the ALCS and WS last year, and the trend has continued into this year. He is not taking his walks and not hitting the ball well.
  8. define building? sucking and picking top 10 every year, they don't get credit for that from me. they get a bit of credit for the Konnor Griffin pick 9th overall. a lot of credit for picks like Bubba Chandler (72nd overall).
  9. Great price if you intentionally don't eat for 48 hours and then try to consume 4000 calories during the game
  10. April 8 versus Blowtani Springer (1) - mphenhef Varsho (1) Vlad (1) - Landry jesus (2) - Laika Kaz (2) - jonn Clement (3) Lukes (4) Gimenez (3) Heineman (5) - Orgfiller Bench (10)
  11. The top three stories on MLBTR right now are: Cody Ponce to undergo emotionally life-altering knee surgery Blue Jays designate Josh Fleming for career re-assignment, put Barger on the IL, select Patty Corbins and Tooter Fitzmuffin Alejandro Kirk to undergo invasive experimental thumb surgery The Jays are the talk of baseball! But at least we aren't the 2-8 Red Sox.
  12. Fitzgerald supposedly had a locker yesterday. I wonder if the only reason Barger was not put on the IL was that Fitzgerald could not make it to the field in time, or something
  13. After looking at all these numbers, my main hope is simply that the team does not panic. The only player getting "lucky" is Gimenez and it's marginal luck (.335 vs .308) Poor Daulton Varsho has the highest contact% of his career and best xwOBA ever, and nothing to show for it Barger and Lukes have legit sucked but even they are getting unlucky, somehow. lol Toronto leads baseball in line drive rate, which you think would be good but it can lead to randomness like this. Not enough barrels. Need to elevate those into flyballs. They can't catch homers.
  14. Toronto .300 wOBA (rank 18th in MLB) Toronto .332 xwOBA (tied for 5th in MLB) 4th in Defensive value. Exactly average in BsR (0.00) Pitching ERA vs xERA, FIP, xFIP: 4.71 3.37 3.76 3.05 That xFIP is #2 in baseball, xERA is 7th best #1 in baseball in K% from the pitching staff and #3 in K-BB% Also a 2.98 SIERA good for 3rd best in baseball Despite all of this the team is 4-6, with a 3-7 Pyth W-L and a -20 run differential what the f*** is going on, dudes? The unluckiest team in baseball through 10 games + injuries being piled on for additional insult.
