  1. ZiPS thinks he should get like 5/100 for what it's worth... 125 would already be a reasonable "overpay". I don't disagree that Toronto might need to approach 6/150 but I'd avoid that contract. The basic plan of the offseason needs to be to wait it out and exercise financial leverage later. Toronto has roster flexibility so it honestly doesn't matter who they add on the position side - they can just take who falls to them. Treat it like an auction draft where you have the most money but where money also carries over.
  2. Lmao did you guys just hand over a team to a con who just got out and abandoned his team before, only to see him immediately sell his players for crack money?

I don't have NBA knowledge but to me he used to be elite at creating scoring around the rim due to his explosiveness and length - that was the core of his game. That + okay defender and okay shooter when he had to shoot. It feels like he tried to become a complete player but in the process has just become a master of nothing... He takes too many three point attempts, has lost a ton of confidence and finish at the rim and really just looks indecisive a lot of the time. No idea if the stats support any of this.

For the most part this is Siakam based. The org expected/hoped he would trend up and he has done the opposite. Tough to be good when the person you intended to be your centrepiece is not even a real #2 dude.
  5. Seems like: - Mets #1 target is Springer - They are confident they will get him, i.e. they will outbid the Jays regardless of how high the $ goes (or the Jays aren't even really in it) - They moved on from Realmuto quickly because of this. Wanted to secure the #2 FA C before someone else did.
  6. I think JBJ signs for less $$$
  7. Luba admitted that Heyman texted her but she "didn't have time to read his texts" or whatever. That's essentially declining to comment and I'm if a reporter that's how I would define it. These people communicate at light speed so when someone ignored a message 99% of the time that's an active decision. Despite his shortcomings Heyman is an old pro at this stuff and Luba is pretty new/naive so I'm not surprised she doesn't know how it works. Notice also that her and Bauer are not disputing the fundamental story. They are just pissy that an org leaked it so they are whining like babies on Twitter to distract from the meat. It's a PR thing and pretty lame. And I like Bauer and Luba enough, it's just so plain to me what is going on here specifically.

Jesus Christ, the WJHC is unwatchable horseshit. Contract it or merge countries or something. Try something creative like the team North America gimmick in the world championship. Anything!!!
  9. Bauer looks like a douche there. Seems like Heyman did nothing wrong or abnormal.
  10. That's a significant gap and Kepler is safer even if they had the same projected line. A decision like this should be mostly about "what can you do for me in 2021" anyway
  11. Okay but this is a terrible opinion
  12. Kepler has 45 bombs in his last 182 games and 5.4 WAR in that span so he could suck for a while and still be a starter. Riley has a 87 wRC+ in his career and is like one bad month from not having a job. 3B isn't shallow in fantasy.
  13. Kepler not close
  14. What if some of those pieces are being floated for Lindor, and the Darvish deal is sort of setting the market for a Lindor trade (really good player on an expensive contract)....
  15. For people who think the Darvish deal sucks for the Cubs, at least think about the comparable Toronto offer. Yeison Santana - 45 FV SS with 2022 ETA - closest comparable is Gabriel Moreno (45 FV C) Reginald Preciedo - 40+ FV 3B with 2022 ETA - closest comparable is Miguel Hiraldo (40+ FV 3B) Owen Caissie - 35+ FV OF with 2025 ETA - closest comparable is Tanner Morris (35+ FV OF) Ismael Mena - 40 FV OF with 2025 ETA - closest comparable is Dasan Brown or Estiven Machado (both 40 FV bats) Those are just Fangraphs' rankings from the 2020 season update. And maybe Zach Davies has a sliver of value on top of that. Who is moving Moreno + Hiraldo + Brown/Machado + Morris for Darvish and his contract?
  16. Honestly I am going to lose my mind if baseball Twitter continues to be dominated by idiots who think that the entire system is broken every time a team makes a financially motivated move. Rays trade Snell - it's a disgrace for the sport. Big market Cubs trade Darvish - the sport is broken. Burn it down. Do these idiots realize that for every sad fan there is a happy fan? The Padres fans think the sport is perfect right now.
  17. He's 34. If he's a free agent right now how much more does he get than the 3/$60 he's currently owed? I would guess a bit higher AAV and one more year. He's great and he has value but it's not like Blake Snell trade value or really anything close to it. I think the Cubs did okay. They got a bulk package of solid prospects from a deep system. I think they'll like this in hindsight even if none of the players really go bananas.
  18. Darvish is owed a lot of money. He doesn't have as much value as people think
  19. Could be some combo of little things, clues about character, and also the knowledge that there are plenty more fish this offseason. No reason to get tunnel vision on one player and sign a slightly uncomfortable deal
  20. It's interesting. From a player development perspective it's probably pretty scary to bring in a 25 year old, essentially a AAA type of prospect, and guarantee him a significant sum of money without being able to demote him. What if the player has trouble adjusting and gets in a rut? What if they actually do need to work on something in AAA? Not being able to freely option them for their own benefit actually increases the bust risk, as far as I see it. On the surface it seems like a small thing but I can see why Toronto didn't want to write it into the deal. Maybe it also says something about the player... like, the team is going to guarantee you 30-40M - you really don't want to accept the possibility that you might need to work on something in AAA at some point?
  21. According to this guy Toronto basically had Kim if they were willing to put anti-demotion terms into the contract. I wonder if this will end up as a tough pill for Toronto swallow. Jason (Hanshin) Lee @Jasons_JaysHub Police cars revolving light Final Ha-Seong Kim update. -Kim preferred a move to Toronto while his family preferred a West coast team -Toronto made numerous offers to Kim, but none included a “no minors” clause -Kim ended up choosing SD b/c he was guaranteed MLB baseball @Jasons_JaysHub [MBC Sports Plus]
  22. Which website has the stats? Nvm I see them on BR Lol Ang. He has almost the best OPS on the team
  23. What's his slashline? I've heard he's been a nightmare at 3B
  24. Reading way too far between the lines - I bet Dinelson Lamet needs TJS or shoulder surgery Sell hard in fantasy!!!
