The Odorizzi contact is, uh, team friendly. Odorizzi is guaranteed $23.5MM. That takes the form of a $6MM signing bonus, a $6MM salary in 2021, a $5MM salary in 2022, and a $6.5MM player option for 2023. The option comes with a $3.25MM buyout. Performance escalators can max the option out at $12.5MM while also bringing the potential buyout figure up to $6.25MM. Combining to make 30 appearances from 2021-22 will bring Odorizzi to just shy of $24MM over those two seasons in salary, while incentives could push the deal up to $30MM. On top of the $5MM base salary for the 2022 season, Odorizzi would make $500K for reaching 100 innings pitched, $1MM apiece for throwing 110, 120, 130, 140, and 150 innings, with another $1.25MM if he reaches the 160 inning mark. The deal also contains some deferred money.

That's crazy young. I've always assumed peak age would be similar in all major sports, like the 27/28 in baseball. I wonder why it's so young in hockey. Because it's so speed dependent? That is one baseball tool that for the most part just gets worse over time. Now I am wondering about other sports.

He was eligible last year and didn't get picked in the small five round draft. Doesn't throw particularly hard but his results have been great although the sample size is very small. Looks like a guy with great command of good secondaries but maybe a 40/45 fastball. Has not been pitching very long.

Hurl tried to auto-draft his last pick but it didn't work because he never demoted his previous picks. I am going to give him whoever his selection was meant to be once he tells me.

I've thought of this and it's a possibility. Only downside I see is people would use all their picks and then end up dropping prospects. So guys would get taken in the 4th round and end up dropped. May not be a big deal

Palacios is interesting mostly because it is clear at this point that the organization really likes him. His numbers have always been solid but not attention catching; good AVG and OBP and age vs. level but just average power numbers and an honest amount of swipes. Scouts also never seem to say that he's a sure CF. Sometimes those kinds of minor league performers turn into solid MLB players. Maybe the hit tool is legit and can carry him, maybe he adds strength, maybe the defense is better than scouts think.

Here are my initial thoughts for next NPD: - We will use the draft room - Windows will be somewhere between 3 and 6 hours. No overnight pause. The expectation is that people will use auto-draft if they have a pick upcoming or will just be ready to pop in. - At the start of the draft you should have a maximum of 26 MLB players and as many open spots on the MiLB roster as picks you want to use. It is legal to draft a prospect straight to your MLB roster so you may go into the draft with less than 26 MLB players. - If you might trade for draft picks during the draft you might want to go into the draft with even more open spots. Fantrax locks all add/drops during the draft and commissioners won't force a drop for you because you want to make a trade. - If someone comes off the IL in real life during the draft, just leave them on your IL. You can fix your roster after the draft. - We temporarily expand rosters to 27 so you have one flex spot in which to draft your prospects. You should then demote them immediately. Commissioners will force demote actual prospects (no MLB experience) who have no green flag. - It is legal to draft a player with MLB experience during the draft. Not sure why you would, but you can. - If you draft an MLB player and that clogs up your roster (i.e., they fill your 27th spot) you are s*** out of luck. The commissioners won't drop someone for you so you can draft prospects with your next picks. - If your clock starts to run and you have a full farm + 26 MLB players there is no official trade window for the pick and a commissioner may skip the pick as soon as your clock starts. - If you do not have a full roster there is a 30 minute trade window on picks.

Yeah we are doing fine. We could have 3, 12, or 24 hour windows and it would not have a massive effect on total draft time. It's mostly the annoyance of watching someone burn 7 prime time hours in a prospect draft when they could have just added a few guys to their queue and clicked the button to auto-draft exactly one pick.

I am thinking of 3 hour windows next year too. The expectation is that people will either set up a queue or be available within three hours after their email notification.

I think using the Draft Room next year will be fine. We will be able to use some of the technical quirks we discovered this year to create a simple set of rules and avoid most of the hassle that happened this year (which wasn't even that bad).
