  2. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/ryan-borucki-drops-slider-favour-new-improved-cutter/ (I know he says he dropped it for a cutter but I would probably still say that he throws a slider)
  3. Yeah as teams move towards restricting starter workloads the distinction between SP and RP becomes less important. Some of these guys like Kay, Hatch, Borucki will end up with a stat page like Ross Stripling's career to date.
  4. A lot of the arms have SP traits. Thing is, the team just needs to put some of them right into the MLB pen just based on depth. They can't all start. Ryu Pearson *assume one MLB addition Ray Stripling Roark Merryweather Borucki Gooch Hatch Kay Thornton Zoinks Murphy Wag SRF If they are all starting then, barring injury, you don't even have room in the AA rotation for SWR, Murray, Luciano, Manoah. So you need to pick some relievers. And you can't put s***** depth starters into the pen and expect them to succeed, so the tough thing is that if you want good relievers you kind of need to make tough decisions and plop some good arms in the pen.
  5. Uh, no. f*** that. Merryweather might have like 200 IP to give for the rest of his professional life... I hope the organization doesn't waste a single bullet in AAA. He looked like an impact MLB arm when healthy. They shouldn't invest at all in 2021 if they are going to send their best* RP to AAA. *or at least close to their best
  6. It is more common to use the upcoming season year to label the offseason. Example, the current free agents are free agents for the 2021 season, so this should be considered the 2021 offseason.

  8. Ross said this? Where?
  9. No I mean when can they be added. Is there a specific time after their first game, etc. Also if players 24 and older can't be prospect drafted are they just free agents all the time?
  10. Spanky goalie add illegal? What are the rules for adding debuting players anyway
  11. Really sounds like a Bryant deal any day. This is on MLBTR: TODAY: “The Mets and Cubs have not spoken in several weeks,” according to SNY’s Andy Martino, and it doesn’t seem likely that the Mets will reignite negotiations about Bryant now that Lindor has been acquired. However, there is “increasing industry chatter” that Bryant could be traded somewhere “as soon as this weekend.”
  12. I could very much see Toronto acquiring Bryant now that some dominoes have been falling. - If the Jays were truly the runner up on Lindor then we know they can/will take on the salary - Bryant is a similar asset to Lindor (star with one year of expensive control) but he arguably fits the Jays roster better since 3B is the hole - Bryant will cost less because he's an inferior player to Lindor, but he still has big upside for a 2021 push - The Jays' offer for Lindor was apparently more prospect / long-term focused than the Mets' offer. The Cubs accepted a very long-term package from the Padres for Darvish so they are looking way down the road. It's like the responsible alternative to acquiring Lindor. You pay less for an inferior talent, but the projected 2021 impact isn't vastly different. Interestingly, Kyle Hendricks could be thrown in like Carrasco was with Lindor. Also, taking on Heyward's remaining 3 years and $65M is a creative option for reducing the prospect cost. I know it's way out there but swapping Grichuk for Heyward in the deal adds only $34M in team salary from 2021 through 2023 and Heyward fits the Jays' roster better than Grichuk right now. Better CF and a LHB so easier to platoon in a corner with someone.
  13. Ugly wife. Must lack confidence. Would not acquire
  14. It actually shows good judgement by the org. Non tendered h after a good season and got him back without committing a 26 man spot. Geniuses.
  15. AJ Cole back on a minor league deal. *Chef kiss*
  16. I think there are no rumours because Bauer is just getting to know all of his suitors. It doesn't seem like he's fielding offers yet. It is possible that his market is softer than people think. He's probably asking for $36M AAV and hoping for $30M (on a long term deal). Teams might not view him as Cole/Strasburg though... if he's seen as more of a Wheeler/Ryu talent then his AAV will not get so high. I don't think his persona helps him either. Teams aren't looking for off the field drama - they want their stars to be adored by all.
  17. Cleveland projects worse than the Twins/Sox but not by miles. They are a strong developmental org for pitching so they can also sometimes find more wins than expected. They should be trying to win.
  18. very interestttttiiiingngngg hmhmmhmhmhmhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  19. Roark. I'm excited to see that diesel truck get rolling in 2021, when Toronto will need him to devour a disgusting amount of horribly pitched innings. I want him to lead baseball in IP and then f***ing retire with a dead arm.
  20. This is clearly post facto reasoning by Sugano. I don't believe this actually influenced his decision. At the end of the day he took a record/mammoth NPD contract that he probably did not expect would be offered.
  21. You said "... Martino is the only one who's mentioned the offer totals for both teams..." My point was that Martino's article doesn't even say the Mets made an offer. I don't disagree with you that he might not be right about the Jays' offer.
  22. https://sny.tv/articles/what-s-next-for-the-mets-after-trading-for-francisco-lindor-and-carlos-carrasco-
  23. No. It. Did. Not. "The Mets were willing to offer him a five-year deal for a bit less than $150 million, sources told Martino." See the differences? It sounds like the Mets didn't even make an offer and they were only willing to go just shy of $150M.
  24. That article is pretty revealing. I like this excerpt: Pretty cool insight into the preparation of some pitchers. Being an Ace in 2020 is not the same as being an Ace in 1980... you need to do more than just be supremely gifted and hard working. You also probably need to be well organized, an excellent planner, and a bit of a research and development person. Maybe also a risk taker. It's almost like Gerrit Cole is the CEO of Gerrit Cole Baseball Player.
