  1. No he was kind of twiggy out of college
  2. Last details = can Justin please throw out the first pitch at the first game back?
  3. It ends with capitulation/acceptance by the government(s) of the new reality. Who knows when that happens in all of the different countries/states. We are already in a reality where certain places have laws and policies that are imagining a basically Covid19 free world (which is not true) and other places are still using laws and policies that are imagining a raging and unstoppable pandemic killing or maiming a large portion of the population (which is not true). It sucks, man. Who f***ing knows what happens in the next year.
  4. Everyone in baseball is just vibrating with excitement at the opportunity to watch Eduardo Rodriguez toe the rubber for the team that didn't want to keep Mookie Betts, as they go head to head with the TBD pitcher from the 46-43 team that doesn't let their players grow beards and employs multiple domestic abusers.
  5. Uhhhh can we talk about how f***ing stupid it is that there is ONE game today and it's a stinking Red Sox Yankees showcase? Wtf MLB. Go smell your own farts.
  6. Damn, just realized my favourite prospect from their 2019 draft got released with no pro games. Nick Neal, the unit himself.
  7. So then what is your projection for him? You think he's going to be a league average starter?
  8. Jim is doing the long and confusing form of welch. The smokescreen welch.
  9. I guess there could be a surprise here. Hoglund had TJS, who knows, maybe he has already indicated he would sign for less than the slot at 19. Maybe the high school guys are not expensive and Toronto can scrape together some scratch to make a half decent offer to Holman.
  10. Adam Wainwright's career resurrection is a massive victory for modern medicine and FIP. Most importantly FIP. ERA and bWAR dogmatists would have declared him dead after 2017/2018 but FIP guys knew he wasn't necessarily toast. FIP guys knew.
  11. The Holman pick is probably just insurance. If Chad Dallas loses all of his toes tomorrow in a noodling accident then they could sign him for $1 and offer the savings of $473,699 to Holman
  12. I can't for the life of me understand why it matters if an athlete speaks English. I don't want to see their interviews, anyway.
  13. Evan Longoria sitting at 57.4 bWAR and 53.4 fWAR. He's going to end up painfully close to a Hall of Fame career. Probably will be one great season short of the optical WAR thresholds and a little light on hardware.
  14. 3B is relatively deep. A guy like Matt Chapman is only the 15th best projected guy at the position. Machado is good but past his prime age and not elite there like Ramirez or Bregman. Not super sure you are going to find the primo return unless there are a couple of competitive teams with glaring holes
  15. Lol it looked like his arm was too stiff for a normal throwing motion for sure
  16. Craig Holman, uhhhhh, really showing all their cards isn't he?
  17. Good to hear.
  18. I mean, you're doing significantly more work at this point than just looking at WAR. And this is not how people traditionally used pitcher wins. They just counted them. You would rarely see arguments made like "yeah he only won 15 games but his team was bad". It was more like, if you don't win 20 you're not in Cy contention. The only people who dug into things and looked at run support etc. were the future saberists, probably. And nowadays even the people who don't love advanced stats can't help but view wins and losses through a more modern lens. I also need to comment on this line "None of the rate stats would tell you about his dominance both in quantity and quality" just to say why the f*** would rate stats tell you about the quantity of his performance???
  19. Way easier to scout pitchers in small sample sizes. You need a couple of games to evaluate a pitcher's stuff - velocity and spin. You need a large sample to evaluate a hit tool, defense, etc.
  20. Old format was kind of boring though. No drama. They have had big viewership increases with the new format and when it first debuted it was considered a big success. The problem this year seemed to be mostly on the production side or maybe a loosening of some of the rules about not throwing the ball until the previous one lands. But the rule about not pitching until the first ball lands was stupid to begin with because it penalizes moonshots! Honestly, the whole thing would be solved with proper TV production. It was like they just didn't know how to do the camera work right. The event is probably fantastic live and in person.
