Look how weird that curve is. Anyway, I'm open to the idea that hockey fancy stats are imperfect and a player as talented as OEL could be much better with a change of scenery

OEL is 30. This is anecdotal but NHL defenseman can age pretty gracefully.

You don't get it. Their record is 59-38 and their expected record based on run differential is 55-42. They are a good team either way but they probably have a few lucky wins. The opposite is true for Toronto. -

Sounds like he has a slapstick approach right now and hasn't figured out how to turn on pro pitching. You know, Martin is still quite young and young for AA. He's only like 8 months older than Groshans and 11 months older than Moreno so they are all in the same peer group. And his junior year was 75% wiped out by Covid so it's not like having gone to College really gives him any sort of developmental leg up.

Very unlikely that any will be better than Bo Bichette. Moreno has a realistic chance to be better but it's a pipe dream for all the others. Bo is a super stud. Top 20 asset in baseball right now. -
Pretty nuts. Tony LaRussa publicly shamed him for swinging 3-0 then Mercedes spiralled into ineptitude and depression before getting demoted and retiring, all within like one month, and after having a historic debut month.

The return in his third deal (Kirk and SWR) would actually be fair for the whole crop (Gallo + Gibson + Kennedy) but it's still probably not the type of deal Toronto should be doing at the start of their competitive window. -
Bo is good enough. None of the other guys are going to better than Bo defensively. There are some younger shortstops who might have plus gloves: Leo Jimenez, Rikelvin De Castro, Estiven Machado. But they are not going to be here any time soon. Maybe when Bo is getting expensive.

I've read that before. You can probably just sort by team Corsi and get a rough idea. Also you can just scope staff directories for windows into the front office. Carolina has these: Senior Developer, Hockey Operations Kevin Kan Data Engineer Matt Walter Data Scientist Margaret Cunniff A team like the Ducks has literally no positions on their staff directory that seem advanced.

Boston had an above average offense last year. There were like two players who had down seasons. JDM sucked and Devers wasn't amazing.

Red Sox might just be better? Offenses are similar. Jays might be better on balance because of the huge gap between talent at first base, second base, and centre, but Red Sox probably have the better player at like 6 positions and they have the better two way position players. Better pen.
