  1. Some of this is dumb. They were right to waive McGuire when they did, and now McGuire had earned this bump in playing time (while Jansen deserves his demotion). These are isolated events. Releasing Chatwood and Dolis makes no sense. The relievers replacing them would not be any better and both at least have a chance to right the ship and be useful. If health plus reinforcements bumps either of them off the team the great, but we are a long way from that happening. I don't think they traded Panik to take him away from Charlie. They traded for a reliever and what they hope is an eventual upgrade on Panik. That's all there is to it.
  2. Yeah, perhaps he was a big sticky stuff guy
  3. I don't think Yarbrough has traditional splits. He's a junker with lots of changeup stuff.
  4. I doubt it. Big offensive gap. I love what Espinal does though. He is becoming one of those fan favourite bench players who sticks around for years
  5. Kimbrel has a vesting option. You'd want to be pretty sure it will not vest if acquiring him.

And as a Montreal fan, lol. Only a Bruins fan can really tea bag the Leafs and make it sting a bit, at this point.
  7. Those arms will cost A and B assets. The nice thing about rentals is that you can sometimes get good ones with C grade assets...

Yeah it is. But getting swept and brutally outscored kind of ruins the party doesn't it

Mate, Montreal has been a pretty sad organization for almost twenty years and when these playoffs are over them and Toronto will both just be losers.

  11. I was going to say are you sure? Then I looked at the stats and yup. Second best. His FIP is fine but it certainly does not feel like he has been even good this year
  12. Right. All these guys playing with the highest level of analytical and coaching support in history are wrong, and an old drunk who hasn't played in decades is right.
  13. He is obsessed with this catching on one knee thing this season
  14. Or just additional lines of inquiry specific to these allegations Or just excuse making by the department who are now being accused of working slowly
  15. The Supreme Court of Canada would say something like: "that the victim consented to the act is no defense for an accused WHEN the result of the act is serious bodily harm and when the accused intended to cause serious bodily harm" Stuff like this can come down to disputes about definitions. When does trivial bodily harm become serious bodily harm? It's a question of fact and judges may even disagree.
  16. No. Of course not. There is a line. Cases like this have been tried numerous times at our Supreme Court. They are interesting reads. I believe in autonomy and freedom. If someone wants to be slapped around and choked out in bed, I don't think the other person should be held to the legal fire for the reasonably foreseeable results. If someone wants their sexual partner to cut their arm off, then a line has been crossed and public policy should say that the person doing the cutting should be held to the legal fire i.e. tried for serious assault. There is a line in the sand. Somewhere.
  17. Toronto's popularity upside has always shown well when it comes to ASG voting. When the team is doing well or players are having phenomenal years, they tend to get extremely high vote counts. I think Bautista broke some ASG voting records and then a few years later Donaldson did the same thing. I'm sure this helps a little bit with some free agents, particularly guys like Semien and Ray who are trying to shine for one season.
  18. http://www.thecourt.ca/consent-and-sexual-assault-causing-bodily-harm-r-v-zhao/ The above is probably a decent summary of the relevant high level law in Canada. There are of course people who are into BDSM that leaves marks, bruises, and swelling. Of course there are. There are people that hang their bodies from meat hooks for fun, man.
  19. I agree with you but as a mod I guess I should say that the comments here should from now on at least sort of tie into the Bauer story
  20. The people who hate him now all, unanimously, thought he was a harrassing mysoginist loser BEFORE the Dodgers even signed him. His popularity level may have barely changed because of this. I'm not sure the Dodgers care that much but of course it all depends on the actual facts and we don't know then. Like, when the Dodgers signed him they can't have expected a clean tenure. He is always a circus. This is just a horny and violent circus
  21. They can only cancel people if weak middle men like you let them. Grow a skeleton, kid. The SJW crowd is like 5% of the planet. The loudest 5%, sure, but a significant minority.
  22. This guy seems like a f***ing waste of skin. Note that he presents no argument or justification for his opinion
