  1. You would have to use long career splits or regressed splits if these are 2022 splits they don't mean much Toronto would certainly use regressed platoon splits
  2. Two lefties up after Santana. Even though Santana is better against RHP those next two dudes are way worse. So unless Santana hits a dinger in theory it's a solid plan to prevent a big inning. Even if Mayza loses Santana the next two are great matchups for him. And if he gets Santana then he can start the next inning which is nice. I don't think this is a bad way to manage in an 8-1 game if we assume that Gausman was at his limit. The other options are kind of.... be super aggressive and bring Romano in. Or bring in Pop, Cimber, or Phelps who are all hard to get an XBH off of.
  3. I definitely see the argument for Mayza. It's not hard to see what they were thinking.

Amazing opening to the season. Leafs blow. Murray looked like garbage.
  5. Padres are hard to like though. Just a motley crew of acquisitions you don't even think of in a Padres uniform when their names are first mentioned.
  6. Guardians for sure. Underdog + Quantrill and Naylor + nerds need a big WS victory
  7. Not really. Did Romano get a single 2 inning save opportunity all year? I know he had some 1+ but not sure about 2 full innings. Did we ever see Merrifield removed in a corner for a defensive upgrade? Let alone, Tapia? But yes the pitch count for Gausman was the same as where they tended to pull him all year.
  8. I really think I would explore trades but Plan A would just be Moreno coming into 2023 as a competent super-sub who can play 2B/3B/LF/RF/1B/C
  9. I see this the opposite way just because Moreno is a traditional archetype and Kirk is very much not. We've seen high-end catching prospects traded a lot, historically. There is a lot of demand for them. It's a liquid asset. 5'6" bowling ball position players are not as liquid
  10. jim i'm sorry but your 35th percentile peen is decidedly small
  11. jim, kindly shut the f*** up vlad is unhealthy fat is not fit
  12. Top end speed - when he reaches maximum velocity. Vlad probably has poor acceleration and stuff though because he's a blob. That's why he can be 38th percentile or whatever in sprint speed but 5th percentile in BsR.
  13. Also fat and slow Really he could set a GIDP record some day He has the talent!
  14. One thing to note is that all of those teams tend to have slightly unique approaches to pitching dev. Rays = market inefficiency demons, always hunting undervalued arms or unique arms Guardians = do this weird thing now where they target college pitchers, draft them at good value, and then make them better Yankees and Dodgers = wield their oversized treasuries to buy assets/talent and employ other humans to shape/develop the humans they own Astros = really good at being on the cutting edge of pitching theory. and at cheating. Toronto needs to find a niche....
  15. he also slowed down quite a bit while bulking up I think he should try to lose 5 lbs this offseason and be somewhere in between 2021 and 2022 Espinal.
  16. They will make JS sweat and use his s***** tactical performance in the final game as leverage to get him to do exactly what they want next year
  17. Ross might as well have confirmed him. He literally said "we haven't started the process but I don't think we can do any better than him" I think they are jaded from the Montoyo search/interview process and they will just have Schneider a full year in 2023. Unless a great manager falls into their lap in November or something.
  18. This is why I was mad Pearson was getting stretched out this year. And why I was mad years ago that the org let Aaron Sanchez be a s***** starter for so long. There is an art to pulling the plug on SPs and just throwing them into the pen. Sometimes teams hold onto the SP dream for too long...
  19. The Jays made the playoffs in 2020 and were close in 2021. The core is getting expensive already. This right here is the payroll Rogers is willing to put out there. Roughly 10th in the league. Don't expect any more. The whole "they'll spend more when it's time" thing already happened; that money is on the books NOW.
  20. Like, I'm sorry connor I know you think you have a slam dunk point here but it's probably just absolutely retarded to make big moves for relievers. Historrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy proooooooooooooooooooves it
  21. How many bold closer / shutdown RP acquisitions have occurred in Blue Jays history? How many of those have worked out? Santos was a bust. BJ Ryan contract did not work out. Randy Myers was a bust. The only one I can think of that worked out was Duane Ward, who I mostly think of as a developed player but apparently Toronto traded an old buy good Doyle Alexander for him during Ward's rookie year.
  22. Yeah that's actually part of it. I guess.
  23. But they don't want to.
  24. You just don't understand baseball. The SP5 spot is for anguish. There can be no pleasure without pain.
  25. Even a washed up Ryu throwing 88 is maybe better in the #5 spot than Mitch White or Yusei Kikuchi.
