Not excusing the Adams thing specifically but just making a general comment. This also has to do with the Draymond Green punch I guess.
The industry expects these players to perform, fight, bleed like literal warriors for our entertainment... it's got to be hard on a human level to just turn that switch off when the game is over. And sometimes your body gets conditioned or hard-wired to react certain ways. Like with Adams, how many times a game, or week, does he have an impulse push reaction scaled to a 230 lb opponent when someone is suddenly in his proximity?
