  1. Hitting and Defense 100% Toronto and not close. SP are kind of close but Philly is better. Wheeler, Nola, Suarez, Falter, Gibson, Syndergaard, Eflin > Gausman, Manoah, Stripling, Berrios, White, Kikuchi ----> In a long series the 5th+ arms might matter. I also feel like Wheeler and Nola combined are slightly better than Gausman and Manoah RP I don't know how you pick. Two mediocre pens.
  2. Can you trade these guys? I guess Marte is the keeper especially if your team is not going to compete in 2023. But he is probably in the minors all 2023 so not a great keep.
  3. Meh. You reap what you sow. I hope people talk about the Astros being cheaters for decades.
  4. $330M so he needs to give them something like 33 to 42 WAR to justify it. So far he has put up 14.9 in four seasons + this playoff performance which is worth a significant amount. 9 more seasons to produce 18 to 27 WAR. I kind of like his chances. Couple more elite years and then switch to some boring old man years of OBP + power with no defense, but graceful aging. The key is probably just avoiding major injuries.
  5. Sweet Now we cheer for the Phillies
  6. what is the league depth?
  7. I don’t see why the side losing Adames would do this
  8. Batting, Baserunning, Fielding, Positional Adjustment Kirk 17.5, -7.1, 8.6, 0.2 Varsho 4.3, 3.4, 18.6, -2.3 That's 2022 only. Career numbers show a huge disparity. Kirk 20 batting runs, Varsho zero... Kirk 6 fielding Varsho 24... Kirk -9 baserunning Varsho +8. Varsho has more career than playing time though so you can’t compare them this way without adjusting that
  9. Ohhhh yeah. Super weird to just impulsively change up your SS at this time of the year.
  10. what do you mean? what situation?
  11. I expected them to start Cole last night. Hmmm.
  12. Even if the budgets tend not to be spent during the waiver draft... do they tend to be spent during the season? Like FAAB for debuting players?
  13. yeah Kirky's zone skills are elite elite elite and he has surprising pop in the bat he's like a fat Altuve i think he has some 25+ and maybe even 30+ HR seasons. the best may be yet to come with Kirk!!!!!
  14. He's not even a top 30 outfielder by wRC+ over the last 3 years. He makes me think of Cutch circa ~2018. How deep is the league?
  15. Well they just fire him if he sucks. The term is irrelevant really. His salary is probably inconsequential.
  16. he underperforms at everything he does runs funny bad routes bad jumps bad swings game power < raw power it's remarkable really
  17. But Varsho has physical tools Was a highly touted prospect And was just as good in 2021 7 WAR in 1000 career PA for Varsho he's real! look, Daulton Varsho is a sick player. How many catchers slash centrefielders have there EVER been? He's a dual threat, five tool dude. Well, four tool dude... not sure if the hit tool is amazing. The K rate is fine but getting close to concerning. The AVG is low. So maybe a fringe average hit tool. Which is all to say that I would be shocked if Arizona would even consider the swap believe it or not. They probably LOVE Varsho and consider him a bit of a unicorn. He would be like, Bo Bichette for them.
  18. Tapia out-WAR'd Castellanos and Gurriel in 2020, lol The Rocket played like a 2 win player in 2020 and close to a 1 win player in 2021 I don't know what your definition of "awful" is but he looked like an above replacement level guy, at the least. Plenty of contending teams end up giving playing time to dudes who are somewhere between replacement level and average. People need to leave Tapia alone. He did not flourish here but he also did not sink the team, and his acquisition was not a blunder by the front office. Yeah, they misused him at times.
  19. Yeah it can't be the bat. No pine tar, too clean.
  20. It might not be that high on the spectrum once the strike zone is automated. The era of the stone handed catcher
  21. The amount of young pitching they have coming through is kind of nuts. Ryne Nelson Drey Jameson Brandon Pfaadt Blake Walston Slade Cecconi Tommy Henry Matt Tabor Bryce Jarvis I swear they will get one front end starter and multiple solid MLB SPs out of that collection. They have pitching to spare I think. And they have SP1 and SP3 already locked in for a couple of years. And SP5 I guess if you want to be nice to Bumgarner... Gallen - 3 years control Kelly - 2 years control
  22. Urquidy is bizarre. 3 years of control and good stuff. It's possible he is pretty good and FIP / Fangraphs just don't show it well. 107.6 stuff+ 104.5 command+ = 106.5 pitching+ The SP above and below him in stuff+ with at least 1300 pitches are: Trevor Rogers Michael Kopech Freddy Peralta Marcus Stroman (Urquidy) Max Scherzer Roansy Contreras Adam Wainwright Frankie Montas
