  2. I think Toronto's priority is behind all these teams: Miami Marlins, .496 Cincinnati Reds, .511 Minnesota Twins, .515* Boston Red Sox, .515 Arizona Diamondbacks, .515 San Francisco Giants, .519 Chicago Cubs, .534 So, kind of unlikely anyone worth owning sneaks through other than perhaps Grichuk. Bader can't get past the Reds.
  3. I wonder if Toronto will claim Grichuk today. Have to think all the other notable players get claimed before Toronto. Renfroe, Giolito, Lopez, Moore, Bader. Bump McCoy from the roster.
  4. They had Chapman intentionally walk Alonso that inning. Pretty dumb IMO. Puts more pressure on a guy with s*** command.
  5. I think it's a "give the fans something" move more than anything
  6. Welp. This was pretty close. 3-3. Lost to Bibee and lost the Syndergaard game. Lost to Mackenzie Gore rather than Josiah Gray. I think Vlad went 7 for 28 with two homers. One HR was a kind of meaningless solo shot off Bibee. The other one was the 2 run HR off Syndergaard which gave them a lead for a few innings. So he homered in a couple of the losses and then of course failed to get numerous big hits when needed.
  7. His command has been excellent this year His curveball seems to give hitters fits. I think it performs better than its current Stuff+ grades. Even if you buy the grades on his breaking balls, Stuff+ says he has a plus FB and average SL and CU. Also, plus command so far. His Pitching+ in limited innings is #1 on the team in 2023... He should be stretched out in 2024 IMO. He might be a viable MLB SP.
  8. That sounds like a small difference, but when you consider that most teams would be noticably better AT HOME then even minor differences in the other direction might be very significant. I do lean towards the idea that they somehow turned the park into a pitcher's paradise. It's not the dimensions though. Maybe something to do with how the error flows now.
  9. career high contact% power production has collapsed lowest pull% he has had since 2019 I don't know what exactly is going on but one clear trend is the dreaded f***ing CF flyout. It's a disease for the Blue Jays. A f***ing disease. Springer hasn't ALWAYS been a huge pull hitter, but he was from 2020-2022. This year he is kind of back to his younger batted ball profile where he is only pulling it 40% of the time. From 2020-2022 he was more of a 49% pull hitter. There is something rotten in the water, man. I dunno if it's coaching or if it has to do with the ballpark changes. But so many of these guys are like... f***ing trying to hit CF warning track flyouts.
  10. How could Ross Atkins have even defended against what has happened this year, lmao? Does he need a crystal ball and a psychoanalyst to be able to tell him that Vlad is going to lay a 0 WAR egg and Kirk+Springer+Varsho+Manoah are going to underperform their projections and 2022 production by like 13 f***ing WAR combined? Like what could he have possibly done better that isn't ******** hindsight dumbo speak? The players are blowing it. Blame the players.
  11. That's tempting if the + is anything decent Lose one year of player control and lose some upside in exchange for... a more reliable player? Sort of? Like on paper it would be dumb but having watched Vlad his entire career ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  12. Yeah there is something stinky about it
  13. The DeJong DFA was extremely stupid Espinal has been an annoying defender all year and he is a zero with the bat. Everyone should have been able to see that Bo's initial injury *could* have turned into one of those annoying things that comes back and flares up. Ugh.
  14. Oh wow, I forgot about that. HORRENDOUS.
  15. If the narrative you are painting is: "he was always mediocre and the team was fooled by two hot months in 2022" then I just don't buy it. his three worst months in the big leagues are all from 2023 when he cooled off in 2022 he was still better by monthly splits than any of his horrible months this season and his production in the minors was obviously phenomenal he's just putting up a horrible season that could only be predicted if you dislike people his shape. Which would be entirely fair, lol
  16. You could say this about almost every player having a great season, if you look under the hood
  17. Within like 19 days one offseason they: - traded Randy Arozarena for Matthew Liberatore - traded Adolis Garcia for cash considerations
  18. I mean... with good reason hindsight is 20/20 and he kind of sucks this year but you can't fake a 5.8% SwStr% he looked like Fat Jose Altuve maybe he still is and this is just an adjustment year. it's frustrating that he just completely lost his power stroke. i feel like he is at least a significantly better defender than Jansen all things considered
  19. It doesn't sound like anybody was hot for Kirk.
  20. The lag on St Louis becoming a bad organization was frustratingly long. I dunno what kept them hanging onto being good for the last 5 years. I guess just a weak division and probably a few really good "old school" baseball people.
  21. Such a stud I've always been a huge Moreno fan and have been adamant that Toronto will deeply regret that trade, if they don't already. Kirk turning into a Joe Louis and Varsho showing he has the hit tool of a typical catcher = not helping
  22. It's like the reverse Brad Hand
  23. If Espinal gets ONE more start this year for the Blue Jays, I will riot
