  1. you have very low standards Brantley is like, the final tiny little piece
  2. The Royals might win that division if Melendez and Pasquantino rake!
  3. Yeah I don't have JDM tunnel vision like some of these others. I'd like him on a 1 year deal but he is so old and the K rate is a concern. I'd feel just as good about Pederson, Turner, Brantley and the team could even go cheaper and sign Carlos Santana or Belt, depending what else they do. Or sign guys with more position utility like Gallo, Pham.
  4. I dunno. He has amazing stuff. And good command. He has just been homer prone in Japan.
  5. Interesting how NOBODY is talking about Shota Imanaga
  6. He is an old right handed DH
  7. Just a PR nightmare for Milwaukee I'm sure they would love to move Yelich but I really doubt they would dismantle the core of their playoff team
  8. They are kind of like Oakland, just actually good. They like MLB ready bats and pitchers. They like undervalued arms, arms they can change, pop up pitchers...
  9. Bellinger if it's for 4 years I'm okay with giving Brantley one more chance but Winker, not even sure he's worth a minor league deal. He's a big f***ing baby with a s***** attitude and he had spinal fusion surgery or something. He might just retire.
  10. Yeah that's fine in theory But the big pieces on free agency are landmines
  11. Just think about the young players and prospects Toronto might still have if they just didn't even try to compete for the last 5 years. Moreno, Frasso, Robberse, Kloffenstein, Austin Martin, Samad Taylor, Groshans, Max Castillo, Gunnar Hoglund, Simeon Woods Richardson, Ryan Noda, Kendall Williams, Josh Winckowski... System looks pretty decent if you don't care about winning!
  12. It's way easier to overhaul your system when you f***ing suck forever A lot of the Reds young pieces came from their firesale. It kind of remains to be seen whether they can develop talent consistently and over time. O's have a lot of high quality draft/development stories right now. They seem really solid. But they still had four top 5 picks in a row and got Adley and Holliday out of it along with Kjerstad and Cowser... that has nothing to do with turning a system around and everything to do with just being horrible for many years in a row.
  13. It takes more time than people think to turn around team cultures and entire development systems. It's really not as easy as just bringing a few people over. These are f***ing institutions with hundreds of people involved and complex systems. Toronto is on the right track. Also, the division doesn't really matter, it's all about asset generation. If the 2 WAR 2B you just developed doesn't move the needle for your team, you just trade him to a small market team for that Ace in arbitration they they can no longer afford. AND Toronto IS aiming for more upside with their draft picks, particularly the high picks. It's very obvious. Tiedemann, Barriera, Nimmala - they are almost always shooting for the moon on at least one high school pick near the top of the draft. Same can be said on the international side, they do very often throw big money at one hype 15 year old.
  14. Yusei Kikuchi age 26 NPB 187 innings, 10.4 k9, 2.3 bb9, 1.97 ERA Yamamoto the next Kikuchi confirmed No wait, the next Dice K.
  15. Toronto is just doing the Cleveland playbook. One of these 5'9" infielders with fringe pop is going to come up and be a slick defender who is smart enough to pull 20+ HR every year. Some day. Now do the Cleveland playbook on college SP, please...
  16. I said this to a friend but the letdown from not signing Ohtani is just massive, mostly because there is nobody in free agency and the smart thing to do is just not spend all the money. Worst case scenario is probably the team overpaying some free agents right now because they have anxiety to make a big move.
  17. I really don't think Bellinger gets close to $200 Maybe he does just because it's such a weak free agent class but $150M is horrible for his projections so $200M is just shockingly bad.
  18. Yeah I trust that he's not interested in Cody Bellinger for $150M
  19. Oh you trust Atkins do you. You trust Ross. Cute.
  20. Well, it's a hard no unless he costs less than $100M.
  21. It KIND OF doesn't even sound like there was bidding and a back and forth. There often is not. Everything is based on models so most teams are around the same number. From the tidbits that have been reported it sounds like Ohtani felt everyone out for a few weeks, then told teams the kind of contract he wanted, and the Dodgers eventually offered it formally so he signed with them.
  22. 2021 - one of the worst players in baseball 2022 - one of the most disappointing hitters in baseball (WAR saved by defense and baserunning) 2023 - .331 xwOBA vs .370 wOBA; no real improvement to barrel and hard hit rates vs 2022 and 2021. actually the worst hard hit rate of his career. I think he has succeeded at saving his career, he's just not a star anymore. He is more of a 2-3 WAR player. He will probably hit .257/.321/.450 with decent defense and BsR for a few years. That's an $80M player, not a $150M or $200M player... ... I'd rather just sign ALMOST ANYBODY who can play the outfield. Gurriel, Soler, Bader, Teoscar.... plug the hole with a geezer like Pham, Brantley. Like, what if you can get Teoscar for $50M? That is so much better, risk/reward.
  23. Maybe Nicky Frazzzzzoo
  24. Wow big money
