    I don't know why this is hard for you to understand AA rode 3/4 assets all the way to the point where they were worth nothing, and then had to dump them for nothing. All of them were actual assets at some point in recent history, some as recently as pre 2023. Just bad internal evaluations and bad asset management. Very clear.

    That whole trade was honestly f***ing insane and people don't talk about it enough. Lopez - yeah projections are for 1 WAR and he is a 1 WAR player but he is literally 3 years removed from a 6 WAR season and he's only going to make $4M Soroka - was an ace in 2019 then we all know what happened. But was only going to make like $4M. Kind of dominated AAA in 2023... Shuster - 2020 first rounder, I believe he was their #1 org prospect at some point recently Shewmake - 2019 first rounder, weak numbers, bit of a Groshans thing Gowens - good numbers, apparently has a good FB all for Aaron Bummer. It could blow up so bad for AA, in so many ways.

    Think about it though. Shiny new stadium interior will be completely done next year, it has been a multi-year process. Toronto the ultimate international city. Uncle Tetsu's is here. The Blue Jays core has been treading water, struggling to get to that "next level" of playoff success or division winning. Corporate owner that is uniquely positioned to squeeze all the juice out of Ohtani. Looking less and less likely that Bo will extend here, or that Vlad will even be worth an extension, so the 2025 on payroll is more open. Short term, one of the biggest issues was LHB thump in the lineup... Toronto should probably be blowing LAD out of the water to make this happen

    I mean.... the White Sox were are so bad that they had roster space for a bunch of players few other teams would even want. Most of those guys were about to get non-tendered by ATL.

    I am keeping Trout if I am in win now mode I think you can do better than just Jordan Walker. Would prefer a better prospect. But would probably trade Trout for one elite prospect. Walker has some mild warts. Kelenic vibes. Eloy vibes.

    On the contrary, I think the fact that he goes both ways makes him a bit more resilient to aging. If he loses bat speed at 34 and is striking out 30% of the time, and continuously pulling his groin running to first...... just make him a full time pitcher. And on the other side, if he develops TOS and can only throw 91 and just plain sucks.... he's a DH. Or a 1B, or OF. Whatever. Like, he could experience COMPLETE AND UTTER CAREER RUINING DISASTER on one side of the ball and just continue along as a 2-4 win player on the flipside. ANTI-FRAGILE.

    I don't think there is a 40% chance that the team would get little to nothing from him as a SP since the present talent is so high. But there is a chance that he is never as good. I don't know the rates on 2nd TJS recovery. The date is fuzzy anyway since most players with MLB track records who have a second surgery are old, anyway. But there are some examples of guys who were never the same. Mike Clevinger is one active one. He want from a front end starter in 2018/2019 to a pretty meh arm. It's a distinct possibility that the next version of POhtani is no longer an ACE quality arm. If he's just an innings eater SP, then the benefit of having him on the bump at all needs to be scrutinized.

    Darvish's posting was hype but still kind of in the shadow of DiceK, who was a big flop. The contract ended up being really good. He was only 25 and should have been as hyped as Yamamoto is right now. I wonder if the context actually depressed Darvish's initial contract significantly.

    tbh for Toronto to still be in it perhaps they actually have the most $$ on the table right now?

    So what? Prince enforcing is good. Sometimes you actually get the guy at a price you would want to pay, if the other team unexpectedly bows out or if nobody else wants to pay fair $. It's not like they LOSE anything if/when he eventually signs with the Dodgers. Just a bit of time and attention. But it's OHTANI you have to give it the ol' college try if there is any chance at all.

    Kind of smells like the Jays signing Tanner Roark in 2019-2020 offseason. A demonstrated willingness to begin spending, so a good sign generally, but not necessarily a good use of money. Of course Toronto also signed Ryu that offseason and then made bigger moves in the following years. We will see if the Reds follow up these oatmeal signings with a more significant move, or maybe a bigger move next offseason. They should! But they probably won't because they are poor.

    His career has not exactly been consistent. Good, bad, good, bad, bad, bad, good. But the most recent "good" even has a 4.57 xFIP. Jays probably should have just gone with the three years on Chad Green

    Well, it depends on what goes in there. On the cheap end, a tube of ground beef is like $6.99 then five cans of various beans and veggies is like $7 total. Then you need a bit of oil, seasonings, and broth or water. Some diced sweet potato or something, an onion. Maybe it's $20. A nice chili with decent quality stewing beef, maybe other meats, and you can get up there.
