  1. This makes no sense. Biggio was legitimately good as a rookie and sophomore. He cratered in 2021 and has not been given 350 PA since. Wasn't even given 300 PA in 2021. A bench player for three seasons now and a useful one for the last 2.
  2. I am a bit concerned because of his playing time down the stretch. Of course he didn't do himself any favours and sucked for a long stretch in Sept.
  3. Speaking of Davis Schneider, he has to be a locked in starter out of spring training right? 2B job needs to just be his. 2 WAR in 141 PA last year. 2 WAR projection in just 400 projected PA. 113 wRC+ projection. They are not going to sign anybody that should bump him out of playing time.
  4. Hoskins is the "dream" signing for me since he might reasonably take a 1 year pillow deal and he projects for 2 WAR. He also might be a great veteran addition for Davis Schneider. They have the same offensive profile but Hoskins has been doing it for 667 MLB games, so maybe he has some valuable knowledge to pass along to a fellow "three true outcomes" RHB.
  5. Walks are just part of the package but not really an issue for him since the stuff is so good and he is hard to hit. Pretty consistent track record of not giving up runs. Durability is the big question, teams will project him for like 120 innings so he's not getting Ace money. I could see 5/$125M (the Fangraphs prediction) or 6/$150M (closer to Rodon last year). Cost could creep up the actual Rodon contract though.
  6. Snell is just waiting until he is the top SP on the market. That means waiting until Yamamoto signs.
  7. Donovan Solano, Brian Anderson, or Kiner-Falefa might be better options than Eduardo Escobar. Justin Turner will be a one year deal, so old. Ji-Man Choi and David Peralta and Dom Smith would be... absolute bottom of the barrel options... Garrett Cooper and Kyle Lewis. Now we are approaching MiLB deal territory. Robbie Grossman. Honestly I really want Joey Gallo in the fold. I'd give him OF, 3B, and 1B gloves in camp and tell him he is playing everywhere.
  8. Fangraphs' Yankees top prospects dropped. They have now done the Jays and Yankees. Interesting comparison: JAYS 1x 55 FV 1x 50 FV 1x 45+ FV 7x 45 FV Yankees 1x 55FV 5x 50 FV 1x 45+ FV 3x 45 FV So, depth is the same but the Yankees have more 50 FV guys. Per Fgraphs.
  9. man, Hagashioka is not good
  10. 3B being manned by the internal options is a viable outcome But the team would need to be bringing in a serious LF and DH to stomach that risk
  11. Ben Gamel legally changed his name He is Gen Bamel now
  12. Nah, that roster construction wasn't ideal. Varsho is the CF. I mean he's a fallback option but I would want him to be a platoon utility OF and he would play RF a lot.
  13. So frenchsoup just wants to be the 2023 Yankees Interesting
  14. You don't think Hernandez is a significantly better hitter than Chapman? Based on their time in Toronto, I feel like there is a big gap. Chapman looked lost at the plate for long stretcheds of the last two seasons. I don't think Hernandez looked like that, ever, in his final three years in Toronto. In my mind, Chapman is on the precipice of offensive disaster whereas Teo still has all the tools and could even get better despite his age.
  15. They will make the appropriate tweaks but it's mostly on the players
  16. Every coach, ever: wait for pitches you can hit and put good swings on them. Whit Merrifield: ARE YOU STUPID, THERE IS A MAN ON THIRD BASE!!! SWING!!! SWING AT EVERYTHING!!!!
  17. This is gibberish Toronto was middle of the pack in BB% and Swing% Whit is just applying a narrative after the fact, and it is drenched in his personal bias. Classic human problem. Most of the Blue Jays who had rough years had specific issues. I don't really think many of them had a problem with being too patient. Maybe Belt would be too passive at times. Biggio of course has had issues with that. But guys like Springer and Varsho and Vlad.... no.
  18. Yeah he's not wrong I just think... he's not as poor of a hitter as you might think by just looking at his K and BB rates. For his last few years with the Blue Jays, most of the time he did not seem like a hopeless hacker to me. Yeah he was aggressive and whiffed his fair share but it seemed like part of the plan. Also, he is athletic. Even though that never translated to positive baserunner or defense, it still might translate to aging well. Like, he's not a lumbering DH. Compare to JD Martinez too I guess. JDM was a -4 BsR and -16 defender at age 30. Power is an old man skill. I am team Teo! It's a market inefficiency if he gets close to Gurriel money. Gurriel is maxing out every ounce of talent for 2 WAR, and Teoscar could still have 4 win seasons if everything clicks.
  19. It's an accommodation. He has some disabilities.
  20. If the Giants sign Matt Chapman, JD Davis is expendable for them. He's a value match for Kikuchi. Will also make $5 to $6M less.
  21. There will definitely be teams that miss out on most of the palatable depth SP and are left looking at guys like Syndergaard and Zach Davies. Those teams might STRONGLY prefer to pay Kikuchi $12M. A 2.2 WAR projection is a 2.2 WAR projection. About the same as Seth Lugo, who just got 3/$45 and Kenta Maeda, who got 2/$24. Better projection than Wacha and Nick Martinez who both for 2 year deals. So which team would not be a great pitch in free agency but has a LF or 3B worth like... $8M to $10M?
  22. I'd trade any SP for the right return Kikuchi might be the most tradeable since his cost is low and he is coming off a really strong year Can't imagine bassitt or berrios' contracts being attractive Gausman would have big value but... then no Ace Manoah is weird. Of course I'd sell him but teams would only want to get him for cheap
  23. I'm not predicting him to be Nelson Cruz. But there are similarities. The point is just that Teoscar's upside is obvious, and attainable. He is CLEARLY a better risk vs. reward play than almost any other OF on the market. Also, I bet Nelson Cruz was a hacker to a similar degree relative to the league. Keep in mind the league wide K% rose from like 16% to 24% between 2005 and 2021.
  24. I know people don't love Teoscar because he's a clumsy defender and he whiffs too much, but I'd be all over him on a reasonable 3 or 4 year deal. Just think the power is so legit that he's so f***ing close to being elite with the stick. Reminds me of Nelson Cruz around the same age.
