  1. I wonder if there is a team willing to sign Trevor Bauer But maybe he wants an actual contract, and the team would rightfully assume that if they wait until March he will sign for league minimum.
  2. If THIS IS IT then it is impressively bad But we are all assuming they sign at least one more player, and it will be a competent DH That would move it from impressively bad to somewhere in between mediocre and an emotional letdown
  3. https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/insider/story/_/id/39378000/mlb-free-agency-2023-2024-update-contracts-snell-bellinger-montgomery-chapman ^ full article
  4. He won three batting titles. People in his era creamed their pants to s*** like that. If Luis Arraez was born in 1940 he'd be a legend.
  5. Sucks that they invested time in him instead of someone else But good that they found out before buying him Age falsification even by one year turns most of these guys from interesting into complete non-prospects
  6. Think he's just making a "sol" joke
  7. *worst pitcher in modern MLB history, arguably
  8. If you can drive at 16 you should be able to drive at 14! If you can get a gun license at 12, why not 10? What's two years among friends? I'm guessing the old 19 and 14 logic was that they could possibly be in high school together, back when we had grade 13 or if the loser does the fabled victory lap.
  9. I would be picking the two young guys I think have the most secure jobs for 2024 Harrison, Bradley, Lodolo, Cabrera all have sky high ceilings but each has a playing time question mark for 2024 or in Cabrera's case some gas can risk I feel like Lodolo has the best projections but Harrison might have the most secure rotation spot right now? Maybe those two? Some concern SFG might not let Harrison pitch like a normal SP. Wouldn't keep an injured arm like Rasmussen over any of these kids
  10. What he did from 2014 until the end of his career probably didn't help his HOF case even a tiny bit. He accrued almost no WAR as a primary 1B, he didn't get over any important milestones during that time, he had 4 of the worst season batting averages of his career. I guess the voters are just saying that his career through age 30 was good enough to make it. And I do think he really looked like a hall of famer most of that time. Dude was a pure hitter. He hit .319/.401 in that time period. The only other .300/.400 hitters qualified from 2004 to 2014 are Helton, Bonds, Manny, Pujols, Votto, Miggy. Kind of nuts for a viable catcher (during this time) to be on that list with pure 1B/DH sluggers.
  11. Yeah there is of course a hierarchy within the Hall of Fame The First Ballot dudes probably have their own text group They probably don't invite all of the 9th and 10th ballot losers to some of the more exclusive and fun parties The Veterans Committee elections are kind of just participation trophy holders
  12. Imagine having the balls, the courage, on January 24th, to say that a free agent would be signing "somewhere, soon ish" What a man
  13. He said all of this RE the Jays?

McLeod was kind of breaking out. Might have been on his way to a 20 goal season. He's playing a lot. Dube had 45 points last year and probably only sucked this year because he can't focus. Cal Foote sucks but he was a 1st rounder.
  15. I'm not 100% convinced Chapman gets his 5 year deal. Maybe 4 years.
  16. Russell Martin went to the playoffs in like 10/14 seasons, across four different organizations, that's so impressive BUT I suppose he's just an fWAR pop up candidate. His bWAR isn't there, and his stats are light based on any traditional measurement. Put him in the Hall of Frame I suppose. McCann is in exactly the same situation. When framing was "discovered" the good catchers had this moment in time where half the league didn't care about it so on a peer-relative measurement they were putting up +3 and +4 win values per season based on framing alone. It was real and fair but it was also kind of like playing 1 on 1 with a toddler. I mean, they were framing against Ryan Doumit...
  17. That they would sign for 1/$20 is pretty nuts That Toronto would need to clear $6M to make that happen is also kind of nuts
  18. Yeah. Hard to say anything after 182 innings but the metrics are okay. Average sprint speed, average range, OAA/DRS/UZR all positive. He never looked bad there, really. His arm strength is pressed through. Statcast says 10th percentile. That's near the low range of acceptable 2B arm strength but some 2B make it work and still play as average or better defenders.
  19. Jesus, the system actually looks really deep when you read that BA top 30 and look at the overall BA Grades and the projected role descriptions.
  20. Looks good He will be the best #5 in baseball!
  21. But 2020 was also a tiny draft
  22. Can you explain the "2020 led roster crunch" part?
  23. Hoskins and Soler are comparable. Soler is 1 year older Soler is coming off a good, healthy year Hoskins has a more consistent track record and better plate approach Projections comparable Major difference is that Hoskins WANTS that opt out after 1 year, Soler probably is more concerned about maximizing total contract value But I feel like this should set an AAV ceiling on Soler
