I just don't really believe in a "Bautista window". I've always thought that that was a kind of really stupid compartmentalized thinking. What if you sign Shields and then Jose breaks his leg in April? What if Shields' contract four or five years from now contributes to an inability to lock up Stroman, Norris, Sanchez, Hutch, Pompey, for their prime years? Having elite vet talent and a solid team does mean that Toronto needs to make every effort to win now, but it doesn't mean they should operate like a myopic. How about a non replacement level player for 2B, how about trading Navarro for a reliever because he makes a terrible DH, how about building a robust 25 man with depth everywhere? Signing Shields and then calling the roster complete would be a rehash of everything that has made Toronto consistent also rans in the AA era. Studs and duds is the roster archetype issue. Toronto has the studs. They just need less duds.

Giving a 33 year old pitcher the type of money and years that it would likely take to lure him to Toronto strikes me as, almost categorically, a bad idea. Obviously there's some price where it makes sense.

He doesn't really have any other viable trade options. A few guys that are just too good to deal, Allen Craig who nobody wants, Ortiz who would be tough to find a value match for. Only other option would maybe have been to trade Pujols.

Moss is obviously legit, it's just that the batting average seems precarious enough going forward that his perceived value will wary wildly from person to person. I think.

Hmmm. Fiers might have been a good gamble if you're chasing upside in a K/BB league. Moss has way more value than him though. Well, at least you got younger.

I'd say Spanky wins. Higher upside for Moss in the short term, and in the long term arms like Hendo are not difficult to find.

He's actually more of an OBPA liability. Groundballers tend to be - give up too many singles.

Want to join the DDL as the league secretary? You would do a lot of the admin duties + maintain trade history for the league, and in exchange you would get absolutely nothing, ever.
