Not being sarcastic here. I think it's a great thought (made even greater by the simplicity - the "why didn't I think of that" factor).
I'm not really sure what could be done with the data, but I'm sure quite a bit. For instance, if certain batters are only productive when hitting the ball way out front, a team could throw more offspeed pitches. If the data showed that one of your struggling hitters had a very deep average contact point, then the coaches could work on getting them started earlier.
It's just new information. The nerds could figure out what to do with it.
