    The Cardinals and Rays (and others) have gone into a new season with a rookie penciled in for a starting role numerous times. They are considered to be some of the most solid franchises in the sport. You don’t need an all-star caliber player at every position to compete. I agree Smith shouldn’t be given the starting job, but if Moreno was ready for the bigs it wouldn’t be egregious to roll with him as the main 3B. I think Seager is a great option to hold 3B for a year or two until one of Groshans/Moreno becomes the clear front runner to take over. Also gives Biggio/Espinal a year at 2B to evaluate their usefulness going forward.

    They still have 2 months until spring training starts, they won’t resort to this until late Feb.... maybe

    Just off the top of my head, I seem to remember the players were asking for 100% salary in 2020 even though stadiums couldn’t have any fans. (This was in April/May) Anyways my point still stands, its both sides’ fault that a strike is happening.

    It IS both sides being stubborn though? Obviously the owners have more money but the players ask for a lot of unrealistic s*** sometimes. Idk, I feel its pretty disingenuous to blame just one side here.

    Front office probably wasn’t comfortable having 3 pitchers on 100million+ contracts. Plus Ryu at 20 per for 2 more years

    Yeah I don’t like the whole draft lotto format, but if that’s what’s required to stop teams from tanking then so be it. I think it needs to be more than just the top 3 picks though.... maybe top 10? Bottom 10 teams have a random lotto for the first 10 picks?

    Sign Conforto and Seager and focus the rest on the bullpen.

    I would honestly argue we should expect the Offense/bats to be LESS healthy this year. Last year the only important guys that got injured were Springer and Biggio. There’s a very real possibility we go through a stretch in 2022 without Bo, without Spinger again, without Teo, etc. I don’t agree with your assessment on the team as a whole though. Losing Ray and Semien doesn’t automatically mean we win less games next year.

    Yeah pretty crazy. Gotta think its the owner calling the shots, probably doesn’t even know who Gausman and Ray are. Teams with a puppet GM always do well...

    Idk how important this would be in the decision-making process, but the teams in our division seem very heavy on RHB. Maybe. RHP makes more sense to invest in over a LHP. Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Voit, Bogaerts, Martinez, Mancini, etc. IIRC Ray didn’t pitch so well against the Yankees last year, especially down the stretch

    Plus Bieber my dude, I wouldn’t do it for just Ramírez either. Anyways not gonna happen, just an idea. Everyone always talks about trading for Jose Ramirez but you need to give up good players in order to get good players. I think a Ramirez trade makes sense for the team if he’s not the only significant piece coming our way.
