I actually think the Tigers would rather part with Castellanos, but maybe I'm wrong. Dino org with no plan to move Miggy off 3B any time soon. I'm positive they'd rather acquire a closer without subtracting from their rotation. Trading Porcello also forces their best reliever (Smyly) into the rotation, which pretty much leaves them back at square one.
-
I would take Castellanos all day long over Porcello. I have no interest in seeing him get teed up every 5 days at RC, YS and Fenway. Porcello needs to pitch for an NL team with a huge park and a plus IF defense.
-
Giolito and Ventura for James Shields.
-
Looking to add a quality reliever, holds or saves. I'd prefer to move one or two of these guys to get it done: Mike Morse, Chris Carter, Raul Ibanez, Huston Street, Vinnie Pestano, Robbie Erlin, Joe Kelly, Jason Motte. All my picks are also in play, as are Jon Lester, Michael Pineda, or Ryan Zimmerman as part of a larger deal.
-
Nice farm Cats Ass, although BP and BA think you overpaid for Deshields, as both Heaney and Glasnow are Top 50 guys and shooting up the lists. From trading Melky, I ended up with Dempster + Sonny Gray + Andrew Heaney + Tyler Glasnow + Robbie Erlin. Not a bad haul for a broken down PEDo.

You could probably add another 80-90 pts to your combined score for Puig, and 20-30 for Appel. All in all you definitely have a Top 3-5 farm system.
-
It's also important to keep in mind that there's a pretty big difference between a 50 to 100 prospect and a fringe prospect, and these PRs don't take into account good prospects in the 50-100 range (except honourable mentions). The BA Rankings also don't take into account 2013 draftees, and Kris Bryant was excluded from the BP list, where he would have ranked around 25-30 according to Jason Parks.
-
You have to draw the line somewhere. Puig would be an immediate 40-50 pts if he counted. Gibson doesn't have enough IP to matter, he wouldn't have placed.
-

Farm System Power Rankings Now that Baseball Prospectus and Baseball America have released their Mid-Season Top 50 lists, I decided to run a fun analysis to see how our farm teams stacked up against each other. I used a straight up reverse points system, so the #1 ranked player received 50 pts and the #50 player received 1 point. Honourable mentions also received 1 point each. First, the BA Power Rankings (no 2013 draftees were included):

Rank Team Team Pts Best Player

1 insert clever name 178 Oscar Taveras

2 ISO Horny 115 Jameson Taillon

3 Twist and Trout 92 Archie Bradley

4 SpeedyGose 90 Addison Russell

5 A Wrench In The Plan 89 Byron Buxton

6 Got Head For Miles 89 Christian Yelich

7 Lyon Tamer 87 Francisco Lindor

8 Oppo Taco 84 Jorge Soler

9 Taijuan On 79 Taijuan Walker

10 True Cardinals 76 Xander Bogaerts

11 London Slayers 75 Miguel Sano

12 Triple Hawpe Brewed 63 Jonathan Singleton

13 Uphill Gardners 61 Carlos Correa

14 Georgia Peach 41 Javier Baez

15 B. Sorry for the s***** formatting, posting from iPhone. Those are the z scores for this week. Boxy's z score was so ugly it got cut off.

The end of season divisional play is going to be awesome. Kats is very much breathing down my neck (smells like cat food).
-
Luckily, one of you or 2nd Leg has to lose next week. You also still have to face NJH twice, so those weeks are really going to decide the Turkey Bacon Club Division winner.
-
Nobody will catch Davis in HR, not that the Triple Crown should even matter.
-
I'm personally not in favour of PTBNLs. I agree with what Kev said, assets should need to change hands in both directions.
-
You can add him yourself if youre dropping Blanco. If you want him on your MiLB roster, you better drop someone ASAP.
-
Shall I pull up the email from May where you said you don't like Marisnick any more? Or are you back on the bandwagon now that he's re-solidified himself as a Top 50 prospect?
-
If you don't clear roster space by midnight then Myers becomes a free agent. You are exploiting a loophole.
-
Nox is gonna love the Clarkson signing.
-
I've pretty much given up on Gose ever having an adequate hit tool.
-
Meh, you could foster a winning atmosphere and negotiate with him prior to FA, some s*** like that. Based on what I know about AA's reasoning, that seems like a likely thought process. Our 2B position really has been a blackhole of production all year (especially defensively). In fairness to this scenario, if we could bring in Utley on a reasonable 2-3 year extension ($10-12 M per) with options, would everybody really hate that so much? Even when this guy misses 50 games he's still a 3 WAR player. He's still a pretty f***ing good player and he's finally healthy. Granted, if AA deals off Sanchez for Utley, it will be a clusterf***.
-
I'd love to have Garza on a reasonable extension. Garza as rest-of-season rental makes no sense at all unless the price is dirt cheap. The Cubs primarily want IFA cap money, I'm not even sure how much we have to trade.
-
Ostensibly because AA thinks this team still has a chance, or his job is on the line if they don't come close to making the playoffs.
