  1. Really? Seems a lot more convenient than the 1pm start time which is common on opening day.
  2. From what I can gather, Spanky has given birth to BigCecil's child.
  3. Actually a pretty cool story. I wonder if anyone's bought the movie rights yet.
  4. Sounds like you need a hero.
  5. f***, this is upsetting. Another young talent lost.
  6. BB is the board's resident gossip journalist.
  7. It's weird how every couple years Oakland decides to rotate between being a great org or a terrible one.
  8. I'd be on board with a Coghlan signing, provided he's available late in the offseason for a couple mil with maybe incentives.
  9. I'm late, and the thread has already been BTS'd, but I just wanted to chime that people get way too hung up on the rebuilder/contender binary. There's a lot of middle ground, and that's where you want to be. It doesn't mean you're being a small/mid market team that's being stingy, it's about building a sustainable foundation and using your resources in the most efficient manner. Financial flexibility is nice, but no team has unlimited resources. Every offseason there are a handful of players who you can sign to expensive deals, but continuing with to do that will eventually handcuff the org long-term. Having flexibility allows an org to spend on the right players when they come around, not just paying whatever it takes for any player that might improve the team in the short-term.
  10. As usual you're stuck a couple decades in the past. 33M isn't that much in today's market.
  11. I would have preferred this to Morales at 3/33, but honestly I don't see it as a huge difference. It made sense for Edwin to turn down the Jays offer in order to test the market, as is his right. The Jays acted quickly on other options in order to avoid missing out. There's something to be said for getting things done quickly. It's not an ideal situation, but it's an adequate one, and there's plenty of offseason left. Kind of weird to see some of the posters who have been around a while reacting so emotionally to this. It's just how the market played out. I would still like to see them bring back Bautista at the right price, however, as I do believe in some degree of loyalty.
  12. As he's always been, whenever something dramatic happens.
  13. Kind of just how it goes, people are biased to what they know. Reminds of Epstein/Hoyer in Chicago always picking up former Red Sox farmhands.
  14. Act quick, this might be our only chance to get rid of King.
  15. I guess you're probably right.
  16. Hey guys let's all quote a really long post without actually responding to it.
  17. God damnit Boxcar it's the principle of it!!
  18. This is a message board, not an official news source. People can say whatever they want. And he said where he got his sources, and that the rumours probably aren't worth that much. Are you honestly this dense?
  19. I think the types of guys our friend from Burlington is referring to are the ones who swing back and forth between being filler and depth, depending on their most recent performance. I don't think anyone wants to see another Ramon Ortiz getting starts, but if you can stockplie some guys who have had at least some semblance of MLB success, maybe one of them clicks and becomes a legitimate option. There are a number of swingman types available, like those that Grant mentioned, who could be available for cheap later in the offseason. I wouldn't mind the Jays having a look at Travis Wood, for instance.
  20. Agreed. Not everything needs to amalgamated into one of the three megathreads. Nothing wrong with a smaller, more pointed discussion.
  21. The Jays have already signed Morales and Pearce, and Pompey would be a better option than Bruce for the outfield.
  22. I don't know why the Mets think teams should be interested in Bruce. He's been roughly replacement level over the last three years, and turning 30 next season. I could see them maybe getting a C prospect in January from team that missed on the better players available.
  23. True, it's possible they may at some point need someone who can eat a lot of pies.
