  1. Well, now they (unfortunately) know
  2. What's wrong with the Escobar deal? We stole him away from the Braves for Gonzalez who was hitting FA, Pastornicky who's not had a decent season yet and Tim Collins. Esco got us 5.6 fWAR in 2 and a half years on a cheap contract.
  3. Yup I saw some videos of him pitching and the velo + movement was there but like I said the health isn't. We'd be lucky to see 40 innings from him, he's shelved for another shoulder injudy
  4. Ayyyyyyy! That's what I'm thinking, instead of paying Dickey $10M for the remainder of the season lets trade him and get whatever value we can get from him and sign Colon for around the same price. No way Mets extend a QO so we won't lose picks either. We might end up with a good reliever and decent prospect for Dickey which can help us a long way.
  5. Hill for Johnson wasn't a bad trade really. I mean Hill exploded in Arizona but no way he was going to do what he did over there in Toronto, not as long as Dwayne Murphy was telling the entire team to 'pull dat ball'. Marlins trade was a gamble we had to take, at the time people were pretty OK with the deal. Who ended up being really good for the other side in that deal? I can count Henderson, Hech (this season) and Handsome Jake, maybe Dietrich. We got back Reyes who manned shortstop well while he was here, Buehrle who was an absolute workhorse and JJ who was supposed to be an Ace but really flopped. In hindsight it was a bad deal but at the time it wasn't bad.
  6. I want Timmy or Ejax. Morrow would be a nice idea too but he's shelved again with a shoulder injury so his arm is still glass. On a side note, how much do you think Bartolo gets in FA? I'm actually intrigued by him, dude posts a very low BB/9 and decent GB% while pushing 200 IP. Plus he's Bartolo lmao. I don't think the Mets are bringing him back and he's expressed interest to continue to pitch, maybe we can take a shot at him, or trade Dickey and sign him, can't be that much worse than Dickey and at least he won't walk the park every start
  7. I was outraged by the Napoli-Franky Francisco trade at the time lol. Other than that great deals (and extensions, which don't really get talked about much) from AA. Halladay/Wells deals were great (well we ended up with Travis when it was all said and done), Delebar deal was great at the time, Yunel Escobar trade was fantastic, Marcum for Lawrie was incredible, Rasmus trade (at the time) was amazing, Estrada for Lind was great, Tulo for Reyes + Hoffman + Castro is really good. Happ deal (both ways) was meh. The Esmil Rogers deal was pretty bad too giving up Aviles and Gomes. So looking at the grand scheme of things you cans say 3-4 bad trades in his entire tenure, so the pros waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay outway the cons.
  8. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/interview-with-sanchez-cut-short-by-goins-beer-shower/ 0:40 mark!
  9. Estrada topped at 180 because he was in the BP for the first month. I think hes a good bet for 200 innings baring injury
  10. What could possibly go wrong???
  11. Let's get Heyward AND Price!!
  12. Dingers posts are fire in this thread. I think the AA-Shapiro combo will be lethal
  13. QO Dickey? Who would pay $14M for him? He'd take it in a heart beat. Pick up the option and trade him if anything, but we won't get much for him i dont think
  14. Yes! This is what I was getting at, while the precieved value in the numbers seems to have dipped the true value is the same because the offence is just naturally better in the AL thanks to the DH. I see the point you are trying to make on your end though.
  15. Hey whatever happened to Noxage?
  16. We'll see what happens with Latos and Leake since they're basically the only two who haven't had AL experience. I just think that given the track record with how we've seen so many NL starters move over to the AL via trade, that these GMs had they truly cared about the 'disparity in talent' they wouldn't have thrown so many prospects away for these pitchers. When talking about an increase in ERA due to facing the extra DH, doesn't that become negligible when the team the starter's on also has a DH for his team? I mean if the ERA would jump by .50, in the eyes of the AL club, because they're still scoring more than a NL team on average, it doesn't really effect his value to them at the end of the day? I mean the starter would give up a bit more runs but his team is scoring more too. That's why we have teams in the AL like us where a starter that gives up 4 runs a game is still good enough to keep us in the game. Just an idea though
  17. Well this argument people will believe in because it's an obvious fact: You get to face DH in the AL instead of a pitcher so of course you're prone to more dicey situations when facing an extra capable batter. However you were arguing that no NL-only pitcher who's signed a multi-year contract with an AL team with no prior AL experience has done well, and it's why AL teams don't sign them... but there isn't even a handful of pitchers in the last decade to have this situation arise, usually pitchers either get extensions from their teams or get traded at the deadline to a contending team - AL or not. With that being said, I still think you're wrong in thinking that AL GMs care about AL experience or not. We've seen teams countless times give up prospects at the deadline to get pitchers from the NL like Hamels, or Gallardo, or Peavy, or Cueto, or Norris, etc. and don't forget we signed Burnett to a 5 year deal and the Halladay-Burnett 1-2 punch kicked ass! I doubt AL front offices really care about AL experience
  18. Yes, those were the two specifically! That's why Wood eventually became a closer too right? "Don't worry, some 130 pitch outings here and there should sort the kid out!" *Dusty Baker voice*
  19. The thing with Dusty has always been, not only is he useless and very old school, but he wears pitchers down significantly. I remember reading a few articles about this when he was a coach with Cincy. He'll destroy Strasburg lol
  20. I might get a Red Canada Day jersey from there because the Jays Shop stopped selling them
  21. That's true, but Dusty Baker? Really??
  22. He won't have a hitting problem, he heated up during the last few games and he's a proven swatter. He'll be fine come opening day.
  23. Let me bump this thread with this: Nationals GM Rizzo has narrowed his search for the next Nats manager to two people; Bud Black and Dusty Baker. Yes, you read it right, Dusty Baker. Its 2015 and Dusty Baker was just named as a finalist to a Major League manager position. Jesus.
  24. Majority of the time? It barely happens! Unless you're willing to look at trades as well involving pitchers going from NL to AL for the first time in their careers, the sample size would be very small
