    Generally a player loses value as the clock to free agency ticks down. But this is not always true as others have alluded. The ideal scenario will be Vlad is a 150+ wRC bat before the break, the Jays are 10 games below .500, and someone like Freeman or Olson suffers a season ending injury. Being the Jays, won't happen.

    By the way it's often not a matter of mechanical adjustments, but pitchers making changes to how they attack a hitter. The hitter then needs to adjust the plate approach. So it is possible the Jays see something in the data and think they can make an effective adjustment to approach.

    It really depends on overall team outlook, otherwise you end up with the Angels/Trout scenario. By the above consideration, I don't think a Vlad extension overpay is in the Jays interest. Given his body, good chance Vlad is in serious decline when the Jays start a new competitive cycle (4-5 yrs?)
