  1. Agreed on both points. On the other hand, I don't think Bautista and EE had a walk rate problem. The guys that this team needs to improve are guys like JPA, Rasmus, Lind and Lawrie and of these 4, Lind has shown a big improvement and Rasmus some improvement. JPA we won't discuss and Lawrie is worse so far. The team also has a BA problem, I mean for Rasmus/JPA to hit .230 and have an OBP around .330, they'd have to walk around 20% (?) of the time, I mean that's not realistic.
  2. I agree that Murphy shouldn't have been kept around, but it's tough to blame him for guys that are on their first year with the team yet refuse to give him credit for Bautista and EE's OBP's. Cabrera's OBP is .040 points higher than his BA, last year it was .044 points and in 2011 when he got 200 hits, it was up like .35 points so the reason for his low OBP is his low BA. Izturis is walking less no doubt, but he's also 32 now and if he continues to increase his BA, I would think his walk rate will normalize, or let's hope it will. Bautista and EE seem to be walking as much as last year, Rasmus a little more. Lind is certainly walking way more. JPA is who he is, let's not beat a dead horse. Lawrie is certainly a concern. There's no doubt that better discipline would lead to a higher BA and OBP as well as fewer K's, but as much as I disagreed with keeping Murphy, I won't blame him for the offense's problems.
  3. Gotta get to Dempster tomorrow, they should've gotten to him in Toronto, but here's another chance. Problem is Jenkins is pitching, but we'll see.
  4. One inning at a time, get through the 7th and then we'll see.
  5. Last start he started off well, had that 7-run inning and then pitched 2 or 3 more. If there's anything positive about Buehrle so far is that he's on pace for 195 innings even with an era around 7.
  6. Don't think that's possible by this team, how about settling for a 1-run win.
  7. I agree and I was just having fun with AA's penchant for promises like the one to Vizquel last year and DeRosa possibly Blanco this year. However, we know Thole should've been on the ML team over Blanco since the get-go and given the infield problems, one could make the case that Negrych should've been given a shot, but not that big a deal
  8. I added the part, "at the expense of the ML team" so I am having a bit of fun, but he did promise to do what he could to give them a competitive. He mentioned getting Mauro Gomez who was Int League MVP. It was in a story by Ken Rosenthal: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/toronto-blue-jays-gm-alex-anthopoulos-uses-waiver-claims-to-maximum-advantage-at-minimal-cost-042413
  9. Turns out AA made a promise to the Buffalo owner that he'd do everything he could to give them a competitive team, even at the expense of the ML team.
  10. The thing is, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Reyes, JJ and Morrow are injured. We knew RR had a horrible year last year, then had surgery and was bad all spring. Happ is bad luck, but he wasn't that good anyway. Basically, AA shouldn't be allowed to use injuries as an excuse, he had to know what he was acquiring. I'm pretty indifferent at this point. I am now looking at guys that could be traded for prospects or salary relief. I also hope Christian Lopes gets promoted to A+, Andy Burns and Aaron Sanchez to AA and hopefully guys like Pillar, Nolin, Stroman, Jimenez and possibly Stilson make it to AAA at some point this year as well as Hutchison coming back and Gose's development. Maybe Goins can become a backup infielder. After that, hopefully Drabek and McGowan can become middle relievers and AA can trade some of the ML relievers to get something back. And we're only on May 11th!
  11. Thing is, I felt this way since the beginning of the year with all the "it's early" shoulder-shrugging. Clearly they were not ready for the season, their pitchers were not stretched out and were pitching in minor league games one week before the season began and hitters were not playing on the road. Gibbons/AA's deferring to vetrins bit them in the behind, too hands-off. Anyway, let's hope Buehrle puts togeter some QS and someone trades for him, even with a partly subsidized contract.
  12. I agree with you, but JJ is gone anyway so there's no point in keeping him. The idea of trading Buehrle is more a pipedream than anything else given his contract. I would think they'll have to go out and sign a pitcher in FA. I don't think they're going to give up on this core and go for a rebuild so I think they'll go for the retool, they said it was a 3 year window they were looking at whether we agree with it or not.
  13. Oh I know the Blue Jays would have to eat a good chunk of Buehrle's deal, didn't they get 8 million from the Marlins? If they did, I would think it was for Buehrle's contract. The ugly part for this team is that I think as bad as Buehrle has been, I think he's on pace to pitch 195 innings, albeit bad innings, but at least he's not the one killing the bullpen and I don't think the Blue Jays have a replacement that can give them these innings. I'd like to think there's a NL team willing to take a chance on him, with a subsidized contract of course.
  14. I think this means Jenking will start tomorrow as the Jays get swept and their season officially comes to and end.
  15. Very good post. The above quote is so true though. Rogers did some major propaganda thru Sportsnet like showing the 1992 and 1993 WS. Even at the home opener, I keep mentioning how they showed reports of the trades on teh big screen, how cheesy was that? All everyone kept saying was how this was now a WS contender, and by everyone I mean so called reporters, most of whom work for Rogers. I do remember AA trying to temper the expectations a bit by saying they hadn't done anything and things like that. Anyway, season's probably over. All one can hope for now is for Buehrle and JJ to get traded and hopefully get a couple decent prospects if anything, but I get the feeling JJ will be out longer than they're letting on.
  16. Doubt it'll happen. AA made a promise to the Buffalo franchise that he'd give them a competitive team so calling up Negrych would be going against that promise. AA also doesn't want to admit that he made mistakes in Boni and Izturis.
  17. Looking forward to Nay too, not much else left to look forward to this season. I guess I'm also hoping Buehrle and Johnson can fetch a couple of decent prospects.
  18. Is it true that MLB now has the toughest PED testing regimen in pro sports? If it is, then it makes it even worse that so-called journalists won't stop with the evidence-free accusations. It's always been amusing to me how some other sports' athletes are celebrated for being muscle covered freaks and even fat guys are applauded whereas in baseball a fat guys is used to ridicule all baseball players as bad athletes. Anyway, I agree with Bautista's comments.
  19. Is it too early to promote guys? I'm thinking what's the harm in promoting Lopes to Dunedin? I know he doesn't walk much maybe that's a reason not to? I would think Andy Burns could also be promoted to AA. I'm indifferent to the MLB club now, I'm more interested in seeing Pillar in AAA, Burns and Sanchez in AA, Lopes in A+ and looking forward to guys like Davis, Smoral, DeJong in SS ball. Also, is A.J. Jimenez just rehabbing in Dunedin and will go to AA soon or did they demote him vis-a-vis last year when he played in AA?
  20. Good thing I was just 5 minutes into holding my breath, thanks! AA must take the pick and let someone else sign JJ unless he can get him on a cheap 1 year deal. Let's hope he comes back and doesn't miss any more starts, but I have a feeling, given all that has gone wrong, that he may end up with TJS. I'd say he needs to take that money and address C and DH. I know 2B is a hole, but Izturis is signed to a 3 year deal and if you address C and DH, you can live with his offense although I wish they could get a guy with similar offense, but better defense. There will potentially be pitching depth next season with possibly Nolin, Stroman and outside chance that even Sanchez start the year at AAA. Hutchison, Drabek will hopefully be back so that will also help. On the other hand, others have pointed out that the payroll is already maxed out for next year so they may have to go with the same crew unless AA makes some trades.
  21. By how much would the Blue Jays have to overpay to get Cano or other top free agents to sign with them?
  22. Didn't the Blue Jays get 8 million from the Marlins or was that just a painting of an 8-million dollar bill Loria convinced AA was worth the same as 8mil? I guess this would bring down Buehrle's deal to around 40 million, still bad, but at least a bit less to eat.
  23. I'm more excited about following the minor league system even if they traded away so many of their top prospects
