  1. I'm fine with getting another starter, I'm just afraid of what AA would agree to give up to get one given what he gave up in trades beginning with the Happ trade. I know that Morrow is a question mark, but for the team to contend, I think they'll need most of the things I listed to go their way and Morrow is one of those.
  2. The way I see it is that since it's unlikely they get a #1 or 2 type starter, they should focus on improving the C and 2B positions. There are some good bullpen pieces that could attract some interest. I'd be willing to deal 2 of Janssen, Santos and Delabar as well as Cecil. No matter how you slice it, in order for the Blue Jays to contend in 2014, they'll need Cabrera and Morrow to be healthy and play/pitch well. They'll need Dickey to pitch close to his 2010-2012 level. They'll need Bautista and Encarnacion to be healthy, Rasmus to have a similar year and Lawrie to be healthy and hit well. Improving at C and 2B will be key.
  3. I get that, that's why I said I agreed with your comment. And again, I agree with this comment. I get that a lot of people are frustrated with the Jays' inability to draft/develop their own good players over the last while, but the system was doing well, including some of the guys that were traded. The organization, for whatever reason, just decided it would change course and use them to get players for now. I'd see their point if Thames, Snider, Nestor Molina and others had shown significant improvements elsewhere. I can see people being pissed at emptying the farm, like I was/am, but it seems to be self-contradictory to complain about trading away most of your top prospects and then saying the franchise can't draft/develop.
  4. I was referring to Syndergaard and Nicolino more than anyone else. I was also pointing out that it wasn't a matter of player development because some seem to be implying that Syndergaard was struggling in the Blue Jays' system, went to the Mets and developed into this great prospect, I just don't think the facts support this theory. I do agree with your comment, the reason most of these guys and others were traded was not because the organization was giving up on them.
  5. Has anything like this been done for any other retiring great? They can do whatever they want, but my view is this: He's a reliever, just win the final game and bring him in to close it out. I don't see why they need to make up ways to play him. He's going to retire, just do it.
  6. I don't see how this can be true when it comes to these guys. I mean, I get that the Jays haven't developed good players lately, but Syndergaard was dominant in the Blue Jays' system and Nicolino was pretty good. They were considered "the big 3" along with Sanchez for a reason. It's not like they were struggling. They were ranked as the organization's top prospects, same with Marisnick. I chalk it up to not wanting to wait for their top-10 ranked system, maybe top-5, to bear fruits. They just decided they'd scrap their plan of acquiring struggling younger and cheaper players with upside, (Rasmus, Morrow, Escobar), and went for older, more expensive ones with downsides, for some reason. If they had been so bad at evaluating young players over the 1st 2 years of the Ninja's reign, their system wouldn't have risen to the level it did.
  7. Yes, you are. Once a Ninja, always a Ninja!
  8. AA will probably draft 2 lefty 7-footers out of some junior college or something anyway, so don't get too excited
  9. Can one of your twits send a tweet to Hayhurst or Nicholson-Smith asking them to do a review of Anthopoulous' trades and how much talent he gave up as well as his drafting? I don't tweet so I can't do it.
  10. Please no more AA vs Alderson trades, I think we've seen enough of those!
  11. I think we may know to whom Escobar directed his eye black message.
  12. It would be an admission that AA hired the wrong guy twice in 2 tries. Firing Gibbons would be the final nail in the coffin for me when it comes to AA and not because I think Gibbons is a great manager, I just hate it when people are scape-goated, if you know what I mean. Re-hiring Gibbons and going with an almost entirely rookie coaching staff was iffy from the beginning, it just put a big bullseye on their back if anything went wrong. AA screwed up big time on so many levels. I think it would do him some good to resign and take an assistant GM job somewhere if he wants to have another chance. He's really in over his head.
  13. Not a true Cardinal?
  14. I'm of this suspicion. However, I still hold AA accountable for not negotiating better trades with both the Mets and Marlins. I understand not wanting to strike out, but the moment Beinfest brought up Buehrle and Reyes, AA should've realized that they wanted to dump their salaries. The Mets were having trouble coming to terms on an extension with RAD, it was no secret and there was really only one more team involved (Rangers) and they weren't willing to meet teh Mets' asking price. Anyway, too late now.
  15. Problem is, a lot of the knowledgeable people on this or other boards won't take the chance to go for it, they talk a good game though. They also provide a good service to some of us who won't go waste our time looking up stats in part because someone else will do the work for us, so let's keep it this way. They also liked the job AA did his 1st 2 years. I think the Happ deal was the start of the end for a lot of posters when it came to AA and rightfully so as it was quite ominous of things to come. Having said that, a lot of critics still picked the team to contend so I'm not so sure they'd do a better job. Maybe they would've kept the farm intact, but maybe they would've been pressured to improve the team for 2013 and striking out in FA was not an option, who knows, maybe they would still have given up less to get the players they did.
  16. So are Tabler and Martinez.
  17. Yeah, but the point is that he shouldn't have even had the chance to run his mouth this much because he should've been demoted just like Romero.
  18. I didn't read the article because I've stopped reading much about the Blue Jays since most of what's written is garbage and I haven't seen a single media-type call out the organization (not just AA) for the trades they made, so I doubt Davidi is questioning why JPA is still the starting catcher. I certainly won't waste my time on that, I have plenty of other things to waste my time on.
  19. All blame for Arencibia playing every day should be directed towards AA. AA put himself in this position by trading away the organization's depth at C in the last 14 months and thus all but assuring JPA's job. AA should also be blamed if in fact JPA has been playing hurt since he gave his manager no alternative.
  20. Great, I plan on going. Also looking forward to taking my son to his first semi-big league game.
  21. I don't understand why people keep saying "we had no pitching". The pitching tanked, but coming into this year, people were arguing that this rotation could be top 5 in MLB, many thought Morrow and JJ would be the real aces of the staff, but anyway, that's all in the past.
  22. The proposed trade would also include one of Hutchison or Nolin which would mean trading 3 of the organization's not only top prospects, but 3 that should all start next year at AAA. I'd rather this team increase its payroll to plug holes, the farm can't afford anymore depleting unless it's for guys in their mid 20's. Just my .02
  23. I remember several of the posters that moved here from the MLB board being against the trades, especially the Dickey trade, including myself so I doubt it was the majority. Now, I have admitted that even though I didn't like the trades, I picked them to contend for the division, I think I predicted between 86-92 games depending on the mood I was in. There's no doubt that several posters that also picked them to contend this year are acting as if they thought all along that they'd be contending for a top 10 draft pick instead, but that's the way some people are. The issue was that we didn't like the change of direction, instead of continuing to acquire guys like Escobar, Rasmus, Morrow, Lawrie, etc. they went for guys in their 30's and what made it worse was that they emptied a top 5 farm system to do it. I don't think many here would be nearly as upset if they had overspent in free agency or traded for guys in their mid 20's.
  24. I hate to make excuses for AA or anyone for that matter, but Escobar was almost released at the time of the incident that's how much of an uproar there was, or at least that's what I remember. I think they didn't release him at the time because they didn't want to eat his salary. I'm pretty sure they decided to try and dump his salary in the offseason because of the bad publicity, I think this decision was way above AA.
  25. It's pronounced go-all-ins
