  1. This is BS. The reason they were a "tandem" is because AA didn't have the balls to fire Murphy last offseason so he kept him as a 1b coach/hitting coach.
  2. Haven't read, watched nor heard this and won't, sounds like propaganda.
  3. Haha, I suspect they were pushing for the big trades last offseason just to sell tickets. We'll see next year with attendance down and an expensive and old team.
  4. It's also interesting that Farrell wanted Mottola as associate hitting coach. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see what happens.
  5. From what I have googled, guys like Griffin and Lott just shrugged their shoulders and said "it was generally expected that at least one coach would be fired". Anyway, it's a clown show, how the owners can allow this to go on is nuts.
  6. I don't read much outside of links posted here either so I don't recall anyone grilling him. I've wondered if it has something to do with his being Canadian, I know it may sound silly, but it makes me wonder. Maybe because they called him the "wunderkind", they feel they'd be admitting to being wrong about him, who knows. The guy has really gone full retard. I do suspect Beeston is very involved in a lot of the dealings, but still.
  7. This is hilariously sad. I know several have said 'why Mottola and not Pete Walker' and it makes some sense given the rotation's struggles, but I would say that it's wrong for AA to fire anyone at all because it was his decision to bring back Gibbons. It was his decision to hire rookies as hitting and pitching coaches. It was his decision to let go of a well-regarded coach in Butterfield by keeping him in limbo. It was his decision to replace Murphy as the hitting coach with Mottola, but still kept him around as the 1b coach because he didn't have the balls to flat out fire him. I know it's too much to ask of the media types that cover this organization, but I just dream of someone taking AA to task for his moves beginning with the Happ trade, I won't hold my breath though.
  8. I don't agree with anyone being censored although I acknowledge MLB has the right to do so. I think looking like a fool to hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of people is a big penalty and can teach them a lesson.
  9. I wouldn't do that deal, but let's face it, Morrow may need TJS for all we know and Hutchison is coming off TJS, they don't much value. In fact, their low value is one reason not to trade them at this time. The Blue Jays have no choice but to hope that Morrow is healthy and good next season, it's one of the things that needs to go right for them to have a chance.
  10. One of the problems with the Marlins trade, at least in my view, was that it wasn't a trade they were looking to make. By all accounts AA was inquiring about JJ and it was the Marlins who brought Buehrle into the conversation and then AA apparently brought up Reyes because of the prospects the Marlins asked for. To me, it was a huge overpay when you consider the salaries they took on. The effects of these salaries are easy to see now when they have a 130M payroll just to keep the roster intact, simply ridiculous and it went against everything AA had preached and mostly practiced since he took over.
  11. I'd like to know too, but what's done is done. It seems starting with the Happ trade, it's one overpay after the other and for older, more expensive players to boot. One of the reasons I started to get excited about the Jays was because of what you mentioned; getting guys like Rasmus, Escobar, Morrow, Lawrie, building up the farm, and then, complete u-turn. There's gotta be more to it than meets the eye. I think it'll only come out after he's fired.
  12. I don't think this F/O would survive May if they tank again, at least I hope Rogers is awake enough to notice what's going on. I just really think that they should start shopping players in Jul.
  13. If they struggle in the first half, I expect them to start trading assets for prospects, starting with Bautista and EE. If they're both healthy, they could fetch a nice return. Maybe eat some salary on Reyes and Dickey and someone may give you a couple of prospects. Remember, they'll have 2 picks in the top 11 and you add the young starting pitching depth and depending on what they get in return for the vets they trade, they could be ready to contend by 2025.
  14. I remember him talking about having read all the Bill James stuff in an interview he did with Mansbridge One on One, I think it's on YT. This was just before the start of the 2013 season. I think he says that he's tried to rely on both as the years have gone by which is rather worrisome because his moves have gotten worse so this may explain it. You're right about him him saying he needed to be more firm, he mentioned this when he was being questioned about re-hiring Gibbons at that famous press conference. However, I think this also applied to the moves he had made.
  15. Maybe. He also liked Happ, so he overpaid to get him. He liked Reyes too and probably got so excited at the chance to get him that he didn't notice the Marlins were trying to dump his and Buehrle's salaries on his dumb ass. Anyway, it goes on and on.
  16. I don't think anyone thinks Gomes is this good. Personally, I never understood why it took a Mike Aviles and a Yan Gomes to get a guy like Rogers. Anyway, too late now.
  17. I never understood why it took Aviles and Gomes to get a guy like Rogers and posted about it a few times. AA's last 4 trades have been horrible, he's lucky he has a job and I think he knows it, just look at his weight although admittedly, I haven't watched or heard an interview of his since the Mets trade. I liked Gomes, I know easy to say now, but I really did. His swing reminded me of a good player, but I can't think of his name right now. I thought he was just a bit off in his stint last year, but liked what I saw. I also liked the fact that he could play 1b, 3b and C.
  18. The forum is just better all around. Things like replying with quotes to specific posts which the other board didn't have, at least not that I remember.
  19. Hopefully there's some good news on JJ and Morrow in October or whenever they'll get an update. I'm not saying it's the best option, but if JJ shows he's healthy and they can get him at a discount for 1 year, I lean towards that gamble and focusing on improving 2b, C and the bench. At the end of the day, they won't get a #1-2 so contention will hinge on improvements and health from the guys they were counting on this year. I say give it a go and if it tanks again, start trading assets at the deadline, starting with Bautista and EE.
  20. Has any of the media types that follow the team asked AA about what he gave up at all this season? Probably not. I wonder if Lou Pinella and others still think it was the Blue Jays who "raped" (his word), and not the other way around. Heck, they all probably still do.
  21. Firing Buck, Tabler, Wilner and even Zaun would go a long way as well.
  22. Ok, thanks, I guess it's just more frustration from fans, it's normal. We'll see what happens this off season, I hope the F/O goes back to getting guys like Escobar, Morrow and Rasmus to plug the holes. Interestingly, if I'm not mistaken, these guys were acquired in exchange for relievers to some extent at least.
  23. I didn't pay too much attention during the trading deadline, were there any overpays for relievers like the 3 you're mentioning?
  24. Let's face it most of us are as dumb as AA for picking the team to contend, lol.
  25. The way I see it is they won't be moved this off season, but if the team tanks again next season and they both show they're healthy, I would think the rebuild has to start with getting a haul by trading both of them. Maybe if they get Abreu, they could then see what they could bet for Bautista this offseason, I know it's unlikely, but would be interesting.
