  1. If the owners of this franchise wanted an efficiently built roster, they wouldn't have approved the payroll increase last off season. In fact, they would've traded Bautista, Morrow and others for prospects during the 2012 off season or during the 2013 season.
  2. Oh, I see, you're assuming McGowan earns a rotation spot, that certainly would be nice. Hopefully, they sign Santana to a nice 1-year deal; Happ, Rogers and Redmond pitch well for the rest of ST and they can trade 1 or 2 of them for positional help.
  3. Plus when Ken Rosenthal is involved in reporting it, it lends considerable legitimacy to the reports.
  4. You prefer Jeffress over McGowan and Redmond over Rogers or are you thinking they'd be traded for a 2B or platoon partner for Lind?
  5. So would several posters, lol. I think it could happen as Seattle seems to be thin in the rotation and doesn't have much more money to spend so Happ+ a reliever may not be that far off. I think we see a trade before ST is over.
  6. I imagine the Jays would have to add a prospect because of Happ and Santos' salaries, but other than that, I'm not sure Ackley should be worth more than that. He has struggled after all and he's out of position, I don't see them having much of a bargaining position.
  7. It was a joke, but no, signing Santana would not make up for the bad trades he's made in the last 20 months or so.
  8. Could be, especially after AA said there could be 2 spots open in the rotation. Apparently, he wanted to pitch through the pain, but Gibbons decided against it. We'll see what happens, but if Santana is signed, I'd like to think Happ would get dealt.
  9. I suspect AA will be left holding his souvlaki again.
  10. Remember, JJ comes with injury risks attached, although I've said I would've made the QO. However, I just don't think the Jays had that kind of budget even if you trade Happ, you'd still be looking at close to 150M. If they have that kind of money, it may be better to sign Santana and Drew at this point, but I doubt it.
  11. I think it's telling that he signed with the Padres in that it shows he's looking for an advantage. I doubt many teams will give him a bunch of money even if he has a good year.
  12. No way the Jays would have a 150M budget this year.
  13. It's already been brought up especially with the narrative that they've put out there that injuries and bad luck killed them last year and they're gonna give the same squad another shot. Well, JJ was a big part of that squad. There could be an argument based on JJ's health, maybe they didn't like his medicals...who knows.
  14. For sure. Even Happ's struggles could turn around and hopefully increase his trade value which could come in handy IF the jays get Santana.
  15. Assuming he continues to outperform them in ST although there's a decent chance he makes the team. My preference is for him to spend more time at AAA.
  16. He could get Santana and promise his bosses that he'll move salary to compensate, i.e. Happ + Santos/Janssen/Cecil. I don't think many like Santana, but on a 1-year deal, the benefits outweigh the risks. I also see a long term benefit in that it would allow Stroman, Nolin and possibly Hutchison more development time at AAA.
  17. s***, so he may sign today, just goes to show you, when you have a problem selling something, you're likely asking for too much. I doubt it's the Jays as AA is probably still having breakfast....if he's even awake.
  18. 1st option to replace Happ at #5 although if they keep Rogers/Redmond as the long reliever/6th starter they may give one of them a shot, or even McGowan. I'm certainly all for giving Hutchison a month or more at AAA.
  19. Another reason to sign Santana would be to give guys like Hutchison, Stroman and Nolin more time at AAA to continue to develop. Hutchison would be the 1st call-up, no doubt, but a month or so in AAA wouldn't hurt him and Happ/Rogers/Redmond as #5 is much better than Happ as #4 and one of the others as #5.
  20. When you think about it, it's not a bad return for a guy like Lincoln although it was with Amaro Jr. I think Cecil could get a similar or better return. I still think we see some trade action late in ST.
  21. I haven't closed the book on #2, even more so if AA signs Santana. I actually think Happ's salary would be dumped if Santana was signed. A reliever will have to be traded either before OD or soon thereafter.
  22. Reyes was off to such a great start last season, he had 5 SB in the 10 games he played. I know he's set a goal of 40 SB, but I think he could approach 20 HR.
  23. I don't mind standing pat, but the franchise has said it's trying to contend now and have made moves accordingly so that's the context by which the team is being judged. No doubt Hollon has some nice upside, that could turn out to be a really good pick. Gotta also love the upside Brentz has.
