  1. Stroman looked good, but he threw a really flat FB to D'Arnaud and hung a breaking pitch to David Wright, no shame in that. Needs more time.
  2. I actually suspect he'll request a trade if the team is struggling. He started making a bit of noise in mid 2012 and I suspect this noise may have helped to push the FO to try to speed up the rebuild. I have no proof of course!
  3. Good for McGowan and hopefully he stays healthy, even if he pitches like a #5, then so be it, but it's a feel good story...at least for as long as it lasts. I'd think they'll keep him around 75-80 pitches for the first few starts and piggyback him with Redmond/Rogers. At some point, AA has to trade one of these relievers. Hopefully he gets 2 position players in return for one of them like he gave up to get Rogers, but I doubt it.
  4. Enjoyed reading this interview: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/qa-keri-on-new-expos-book-hopes-for-return/
  5. If it's true that teams are looking for starting pitching depth, there's gotta be a team out there willing to give up a bag of balls or some $ for one of these guys, hasn't there? On the other hand, teams know AA has to waive 2 guys at some point.
  6. I know, I'm just saying the change of direction is more concerning than specific trades. The standpat approach this offseason is perplexing to say the least given the moves they made. It makes you think they're stuck in between which is the worst thing you can do. We'll see what happens.
  7. On the other hand, teams also know he can't keep all these relievers so they're probably not gonna offer much in return. We'll have to wait and see, but AA may have gotten too cute again.
  8. That's my suspicion as well and this is not to say AA shouldn't be held accountable for the moves as I think he should've gotten a discount for the contracts he took on from the Marlins and clearly gave up too much for Dickey. However, the bigger issue to me is the change of direction from building a sustainable winner to some sort of contending window which was a complete reversal of what AA had been preaching and working towards in his first 3 years as GM. Too late now....
  9. AA really has a few days to move one or 2 of Redmond/Rogers/Happ/McGowan/Jeffress and get something in return. My preference would be one of Janssen/Santos along with one of these guys.
  10. Yeah, it would be nice to find out. I remember reading last year that AA was "itching to make a trade". That, to me, means they were out to make moves, one way or the other and striking out was not an option. Anyway....
  11. Apparently, Happ “says that he was told at the start of camp he was in the rotation, and no one has told him otherwise since.” Happ, he adds, “assumes he’s still in.” So this is why he's sucked this ST, he's working on that angle.
  12. I've said it before, Romero's implosion has had a big impact on this franchise and not just because of his contract. There's a good chance that without his implosion, this franchise doesn't act as desperate for starting pitching as it did in the 2012 off season. It's really something else that he can't even pitch as a #4 or 5 which would be quite helpful to the franchise.
  13. Yep. This is a positive. Let's not forget that Morrow missed most of last year and has looked iffy, granted it's ST, but his shaky command could mean short outings. And let's not forget Hutchison could still go through some growing pains.
  14. Jacoby Ellsbury has been dealing with a calf problem and hasn't appeared in a game in 10 days. I would guess Reyes starts the season on the DL...hopefully, it's the 15-day DL.
  15. I wonder how good a defender Goins is at SS. Nah, Reyes would never move to 2B for him anyway.
  16. So Yu Darvish may not make his OD start because of a sore neck. Man, Rangers are being hit hard by the injury bug, although Darvish's injury doesn't that serious.
  17. Some replacement level players deserve multiple threadz.
  18. It seems like a tougher schedule, but as it turned out, the Indians won 92 games and the Red Sox won...well, let's not rehash that. It's probably as tough as schedule....I know, semantics!
  19. So this would apply to guys like Texeira, Ortiz, Jeter, Ellsbury, Bucholz, Lackey, Ellsbury, Longoria and others right? Let's hope Reyes plays 140 games.
  20. If JJ makes fewer than 7 starts in 2013, the Padres get a $4M option for 2015.
  21. Did anyone else notice that Puig almost broke his ankle on that slide into 1st almost like Reyes broke his last season?
  22. s***, it's true, the games here are Friday and Saturday.
  23. Oh no doubt, I raged against the Dickey trade. I know many consider the Marlins trade to be worse because so much value was given up, but I consider the Dickey trade to be the worse of the 2. I would've been fine with taking a step back in 2013 to keep the prospects. The organization would be in really good shape for the future. That's the key though, they had to be willing to accept a likely 90+ loss team in 2013 and it seems this franchise doesn't want to go into a season expected to lose 90+ games.
  24. You can't? Well, I'm sure many fans thought the team would contend last year only to be s***ing on the organization at the end of last season for putting it together...lol. In all seriously though, I agree with you. I'll admit I was for making the QO and I can only hope the Jays medical staff didn't like the look of his medicals. At the end of the day, the FA market thought he was only worth $8M for 1 year so I was probably wrong in thinking the QO would be worth it.
