  1. They offered him a 5-year deal.
  2. 1. Nobody got fired. 2. What the hell is a value whore? Sounds like a good thing to me.
  3. Voting takes place before the playoffs.
  4. I think there's a distinction between selling high and just trading a good player because you know he'll be hitting free agency soon.
  5. I don't support the updating of titles. Now everyone thinks I'm one of those poll-starting types.
  6. Maple boners up!
  7. I bet they get a lot of applicants willing to leave full time jobs to work in baseball.
  8. It actually sounds like a pretty awesome gig for someone with no responsibilities.
  9. •Demonstrated analytic skills and knowledge of a scripting language are a plus. •Experience using SQL and statistical software such as R. Compensation: $12/hour.
  10. Gabe Kapler is vying for the LA field manager position and would also be on the radar for our GM spot? Talk about hands in many pies.
  11. The 'he was hired because he's proven himself under a low payroll, therefore he'll have a low payroll here' argument is silly. You know what kinds of GMs succeed under low payrolls? Good ones. If I'm looking for a GM, the guy who ran a pretty tight ship on a bottom-5 payroll is the guy I want managing my top-10 payroll.
  12. There's probably a window for getting him to forego free agency. There's probably no chance he does it two years from now, and less of a chance next year.
  13. Splitting the OF into three positions is dumn.
  14. Sometimes he forgets to sign in under his Dr. Dinger account.
  15. I'd do it. I wouldn't love it, but I'd do it.
  16. Maybe. He'll hit free agency at 33, and still has 3 arb years remaining, which should suppress his cost a bit.
  17. Projected to earn about 12M in arbitration this year entering his age-30 season. Is now the time to try to get him on a long-term extension? He has a clean record of health, and a skill set that should age pretty well. He'd probably be looking at 8 guaranteed years, taking him through his age-37 season. Would you go to 8/160 with him? Would he be amenable?
  18. I would agree with that.
  19. That deal is far from guaranteed to have any surplus value at all.
  20. Really? Surprised there was no thread.
  21. Have they proven to suck at drafting and development? Drafted Kipnis Lindor Chisenhall Perez Allen Anderson Tomlin Acquired as prospect Brantley Santana Gomes Kluber Carrasco Bauer McAllister signed as amateur Ramirez Salazar That's a boatload of talent developed by them that contributed meaningfully to their 2015 roster.
  22. The key is to pick your spots. St. Louis doesn't rely on the market, but did go to it to buy Holliday and Peralta. AA actually did a really nice job too, making calculated splashes on Martin and Cabrera. A healthy aversion to paying free agent price tags is a positive thing as long as there's enough flexibility to jump on the odd big-money deal that makes sense.
  23. I'm really looking forward to information on payroll. Would Shapiro have come here without an indication that he'd have better support than he did in Cleveland? I doubt it.
  24. He'll probably just pluck Cleveland's version of Tinnish, whoever that might be.
  25. I get this impression too. This is Shapiro's show, and I think it will be an inexperienced hire who will have very little autonomy.
